Job Overview:
The Social Worker position at IOM involves supporting the social work activities within the Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Shelter Coordinator, focusing on the well-being and development of unaccompanied migrant children. This role requires a compassionate approach to social work, ensuring that the children's basic needs are met while also providing psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support and facilitating their integration into the local community. The Social Worker will be responsible for developing individual action plans, conducting assessments, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the best interests of the children are prioritized. The position demands a proactive attitude in addressing the challenges faced by these vulnerable children and supporting their gradual transition to autonomy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Social Worker include:
  • Taking the social history of unaccompanied children and developing service mapping.
  • Referring children to necessary services such as education, vocational training, and psychological support.
  • Organizing group and individual sessions to provide social support and address challenges faced by the children.
  • Assisting children in accessing local services and developing their social networks.
  • Completing and posting the Individual Family Rehabilitation Plan on the designated website.
  • Monitoring the vaccination program and referring children to medical care when necessary.
  • Collaborating with the team to implement actions for the Individual Action Plan.
  • Conducting Best Interest Assessments and maintaining individual files for each child.
  • Supporting children during their integration into activities and ensuring they understand the rules of accommodation. 1
  • Training children on how to protect themselves from abuse and neglect. 1
  • Preparing children for their departure from the Accommodation Center. 1
  • Escorting children to appointments and distributing essential items as needed. 1
  • Reinforcing the rules of the Accommodation Center and performing other assigned duties.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • A university degree in Social Work.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant work experience in social work or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree in Social Work is considered an advantage.
  • A valid license to practice as a Social Worker and membership with the Association of Greek Social Workers.
  • Experience in psychosocial support and working with migrant and refugee populations is highly desirable. Previous experience working with children is also an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Social Work from an accredited institution. Accreditation should be verified against the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A Master’s degree in Social Work is preferred but not mandatory.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least one year of relevant work experience in social work, particularly in contexts involving psychosocial support, migration, or refugee assistance. Experience working directly with children is highly valued and considered an asset for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Greek, both written and oral, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages such as French or Spanish is considered beneficial, as IOM's official languages include these. Language proficiency will be assessed during the selection process, which may include written and oral evaluations.

This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates with a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be considered.
