Job Overview: The Health Officer will be responsible for the quality implementation and delivery of mobile health and nutrition services in the assigned woreda. This includes planning and executing medical consultations, managing severe acute malnutrition (SAM) cases, conducting outreach immunization programs, and providing health education. The officer will lead a mobile health and nutrition team, ensuring adherence to national guidelines and standards. Responsibilities also include coordinating with health facilities, managing drug supplies, and documenting health services provided. The role requires close collaboration with government officials to identify challenges and implement solutions for effective service delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Implementation Training and Technical Support: Provide basic health and nutrition services, including medical consultations, community integrated management of neonatal and childhood illness, safe motherhood, emergency services, health education, and expanded immunization programs. Organize and monitor mobile health and nutrition activities, ensuring the availability of essential drugs and supplies. Facilitate training for health workers and maintain accurate records of health services provided.
Planning and Supervision: Offer technical guidance to midwives and nurses, ensuring standardized service delivery. Support the mobile health and nutrition team in planning and implementing capacity-building activities.
Networking and Learning: Collaborate with local authorities and partners to enhance service integration and sustainability. Stay updated on best practices and participate in documenting lessons learned.
Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports on health activities and outcomes.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Required qualifications include a BSc in Public Health, Nursing, or a related field, along with at least three years of experience in public health or community health work, particularly in mobile health services. Desired qualifications include experience working with NGOs and additional training in health service delivery.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a BSc in Public Health, Nursing, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of health service delivery in challenging environments.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in public health or community health work, particularly in mobile health services and working in hard-to-reach areas. Experience in an NGO setting is preferred but not mandatory.
Languages: Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages is desired to facilitate communication with community members and health workers.
Additional Notes: The position is based in one of the operational woredas in Eastern Tigray, India. The salary for this position is 746 USD. The role may involve travel to remote areas, and candidates should be prepared for the challenges associated with working in such environments.
