Job Overview: The Comprehensive Nurse/Midwife will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality maternal and child health services in the assigned woreda. This position involves working closely with the mobile health and nutrition team to enhance service accessibility for communities that are typically underserved. The nurse/midwife will be responsible for implementing antenatal and postnatal care services, supporting pregnant mothers in accessing health facilities for delivery, and facilitating referral services. Additionally, the role includes providing family planning services, immunizations, health education, and promoting safe motherhood practices. The nurse/midwife will also engage in community empowerment initiatives, fostering social cohesion and gender equity, and will work to establish strong relationships with community organizations to ensure that maternity care services meet acceptable standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and facilitate community action planning, ensuring the identification and enrollment of pregnant women into antenatal care services.
Organize community meetings and prepare community action plans in collaboration with Health Extension Workers (HEWs) and community structures.
Ensure adherence to CARE’s principles of accountability and empowerment in community health initiatives.
Facilitate the implementation of maternal and child health services, including antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, and immunization.
Collaborate with Ministry of Health staff to provide training and support at health posts and centers.
Monitor and report on the progress of maternal health services, ensuring compliance with safe motherhood protocols.
Support community mobilization efforts and build the capacity of women development armies and committees.
Document and report on maternal and child health services, collecting data for local decision-making.
Engage in continuous professional development and participate in community health initiatives. 1
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
Required: Diploma in Midwifery Nursing or Clinical Nursing with experience in midwifery services.
Required: At least two years of maternity-related work experience, particularly in community-based mobile health and nutrition services.
Required: Knowledge and practical experience in primary health care level maternal and child health services.
Required: Skills in facilitating on-the-job training for health workers and HEWs.
Desired: Experience working with NGOs and familiarity with pastoralist communities.
Educational Background: The position requires a Diploma in Midwifery Nursing or Clinical Nursing. This educational background is essential to ensure that the nurse/midwife possesses the necessary clinical skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive maternal and child health services effectively.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years of relevant experience in maternity-related work. This includes experience in community-based mobile health and nutrition services, as well as a solid understanding of maternal and child health practices at the primary health care level. Field experience in community mobilization and previous work in pastoralist communities are highly desirable.
Languages: The position requires proficiency in the local language to effectively communicate with the community. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: The position is based in the project woreda, requiring the nurse/midwife to live among the community. The role involves significant travel on foot, with approximately 50% of the time spent traveling and 30% spent standing during training sessions. The salary for this position is 648 USD.
