Job Overview:
The Grants Analyst (Retainer) position is part of the UNOPS Corporate Retainer Pool and involves providing expert analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis and guidance for various grant support projects and programs globally. The role requires collaboration with the grant support team for technical onboarding and supervision. The specific tasks and deliverables will vary based on the assignment, which may range from short-term to longer engagements. The successful candidate will work primarily from home but may occasionally need to travel or be present at HQ. The position requires flexibility in working hours to accommodate different time zones and ensure effective collaboration with teams requesting services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Grant Support Policy, Guidance, Tools and Analysis: This includes data collection and analysis from various sources to understand the implementation of UNOPS's grant support policies. The analyst will draft and revise grant support templates and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and participate in proposal evaluation committees. Compliance analysis and routine monitoring of grant support activities are also key responsibilities.
  • Implementing Partner Capacity Building: The analyst will develop capacity building plans and co-design training activities for UNOPS personnel and implementing partners. This involves conducting capacity assessments and coordinating capacity building activities.
  • Communications and Knowledge Management: Responsibilities include documenting business processes for digital solutions, organizing documentation for evaluations and audits, and collaborating with colleagues to share knowledge and best practices in grant support. The analyst will also contribute to internal communications regarding grants support and implementing partner management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Development Studies, International Relations, or Project Management. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience may be accepted. A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in grant management is required, including report writing, stakeholder capacity assessment, and training resource development. Previous experience within the UN system or with international donors is essential, along with knowledge of UN rules and regulations being an asset.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in Development Studies, International Relations, Social Science, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Accounting, Project Management, Community Management, or Communications is required. A bachelor's degree with relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in grant management, including experience in report writing, supporting grantees, stakeholder capacity assessments, and training. Previous work experience in grant management within the UN system, foundations, NGOs, or international donors is required. Desired experience includes knowledge of UN regulations, business processes, and experience in fragile states or humanitarian contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in another UN language such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is highly desirable.

The contract type is a retainer (consultancy-based contract) with a duration of 1 year, renewable based on performance and business needs. Candidates must complete mandatory courses before providing services to UNOPS, and these courses are not compensated.
