Job Overview: The position is based in Agadez, Niger, which serves as a critical transit country between sub-Saharan Africa and the Maghreb. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) operates in Niger to support the government in addressing migration flow management issues. The Agadez transit center accommodates over 1,000 migrants, necessitating regular repairs and maintenance of facilities, including shelters and sanitation systems. The technician will work under the direct supervision of the transit center coordinator and the logistics and procurement assistant, collaborating with the engineer on-site. The role involves performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks related to buildings, plumbing, electricity, and other essential services, based on identified needs approved by the center manager.
Duties and Responsibilities: The technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: conducting preventive and corrective maintenance on tools and installations in areas such as buildings, plumbing, electricity, and IT; diagnosing and quickly addressing breakdowns in machines and sanitary installations; preparing diagnostic reports; performing daily and preventive checks on infrastructure; conducting curative maintenance, which involves analyzing breakdowns and executing repairs; identifying potential issues for preventive maintenance; monitoring the condition of tools, machines, and installations; and ensuring the fuel supply for generators at the office and transit centers.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate technical and behavioral competencies, including mastery of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and building equipment; strong interpersonal skills; analytical and diagnostic abilities; capacity to prepare accurate cost estimates; autonomy; and pedagogical qualities. Behavioral competencies include flexibility, receptiveness to constructive criticism, diligence, and honesty. Technical competencies require a solid understanding of the relevant materials and equipment used in the role.
Educational Background: Candidates should have training or experience in construction, electrical work, or plumbing. They must be capable of managing construction sites and be aware of quality, safety, and environmental considerations.
