Job Overview:
The Communications & Marketing Intern position at the American Heart Association is designed for college students seeking practical experience in a non-profit environment. This internship focuses on developing and implementing communication and marketing strategies that align with the AHA's strategic priorities and events. Interns will engage in traditional and non-traditional media relations, particularly within the Mobile, AL market. The role requires a commitment of 20-25 hours per week and offers a hybrid work environment, allowing interns to work both remotely and on-site in the South Mississippi, Mobile, AL area, or NW Florida. The internship is set to run from January 21, 2025, to May 2, 2025, providing an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their resumes while contributing to meaningful health initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including writing and distributing communications materials that support fundraising efforts. They will pitch and place stories in both traditional and non-traditional media outlets, assist with social media content creation, and secure media participation for AHA events. The intern will collaborate with internal fundraising staff to clarify roles and responsibilities related to communications support. Additionally, they will identify and develop human interest stories for distribution across various media channels, create PowerPoint presentations and communications reports, and manage local paid advertising projects as directed by the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director and Regional VP of Communications. This role requires a proactive approach to managing multiple projects and deadlines while contributing to the overall mission of the AHA.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be senior or graduate-level students pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field. The ideal intern should possess strong teamwork skills, enabling them to collaborate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders, including staff, media representatives, corporations, and volunteers. A keen interest in public relations, media pitching, and content creation is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a working knowledge of news media operations and technology, along with exceptional oral and written communication skills. The ability to travel to local meetings and events is also required, along with a reliable WiFi connection for remote work.
Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a college or university, specifically at the senior or graduate level, with a focus on communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline.
