Job Posting Organization:
The Sustainable Debt Coalition (SDC) is a collaborative platform established to address the challenges faced by developing countries in accessing affordable finance and managing existing debt. The SDC was announced at the Finance Day of COP27 in November 2022, with the mission to advocate for comprehensive reform of the global sovereign debt architecture. The Coalition aims to increase available finance for green development efforts and has garnered interest from over 20 nations since its inception. The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) serves as the interim secretariat of the Coalition, facilitating its operations and strategic direction.

Job Overview:
The consultant will play a pivotal role in operationalizing the Sustainable Debt Coalition (SDC) by leading the event management, communication, and external relations workstream of the secretariat. This position requires the consultant to manage daily relations with various stakeholders, draft a comprehensive communication and outreach strategy, create external communication materials, organize SDC events, and maintain strong relationships with external partners. The consultant will work closely with the chief of the Green and Blue Economy Section and collaborate with other divisions within the ECA to ensure the successful implementation of the SDC's objectives. The overarching goal is to expand the Coalition's membership, strengthen partnerships, and raise public awareness about the SDC's mission and activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties include coordinating the SDC secretariat/task force activities, developing an overarching communication strategy and outreach plan, preparing onboarding packages for new members, designing and updating website content in collaboration with technical and legal teams, organizing regular meetings and advocacy events, drafting event concept notes, invitation letters, social media content, and other advocacy materials. Additionally, the consultant will be responsible for drafting background reports, policy briefs, news releases, and other communication materials as required. The consultant will also facilitate regular meetings for SDC member states to discuss strategic directions and actions, ensuring that the Coalition's priorities are effectively communicated and implemented.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in public policy, public relations, communication, journalism, international economics, international development, or a related field from a recognized institution. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in the specified fields combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in coordinating secretariat/task force activities, developing and implementing communication strategies in an international context, and managing stakeholder relations. Excellent communication skills, analytical capacity, and the ability to synthesize data are essential, along with strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as public policy, public relations, communication, journalism, international economics, or international development. A first-level university degree in these fields, combined with additional experience, may also be acceptable. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of international finance, sustainable development, and effective communication strategies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in areas such as coordinating secretariat/task force activities, developing and implementing communication strategies, and managing stakeholder relations in an international context. Candidates should demonstrate proven experience in event organization, particularly in relation to climate change, development finance, debt management, or sustainable development. This level of experience is necessary to effectively navigate the challenges associated with the SDC's objectives and to engage with various stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is required, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is considered an advantage. The official languages of the United Nations include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages can enhance communication and collaboration within the international context of the SDC.
