Job Posting Organization:
UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is the lead UN agency focused on delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. Established in 1969, UNFPA operates in over 150 countries and territories, with a mission to ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health, promote gender equality, and empower young people. In India, UNFPA has been active since 1974, working to address critical issues related to maternal health, family planning, and gender-based violence.

Job Overview:
The NUNV Programme Associate - Adolescent and Youth will be situated in the Programme Coordination and Technical Support Unit, playing a pivotal role in managing the adolescent health programme. This includes responsibilities for planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of the programme. The associate will ensure effective support and management of the programme component that focuses on providing access to age-appropriate, gender-sensitive, and socially inclusive information and services. The role also involves assessing political, social, and economic trends that impact adolescents and youth development, particularly in relation to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The Programme Associate will work closely with various stakeholders to formulate, monitor, and evaluate programmes that address the needs of young people, with a particular emphasis on adolescent girls and young women.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Associate will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing strategic, technical, and programmatic support for the development and implementation of innovative strategies aimed at advancing adolescent and youth-centric policies and programming.
  • Promoting and advocating for the availability and access to Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRHR) services, life skills education, youth leadership, and empowerment, particularly for vulnerable groups.
  • Analyzing bottlenecks at national and state levels that hinder the delivery of information and services, and proposing innovative solutions to address the needs and challenges faced by adolescents and young people.
  • Supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of work plans in collaboration with implementing partners and state offices.
  • Strengthening youth coalitions and youth-led networks to design and implement programmes that promote youth leadership and empowerment.
  • Providing technical expertise in the formulation, review, implementation, and monitoring of policies, guidelines, and protocols related to adolescents and youth at both national and state levels.
  • Contributing to the development and updating of guidelines, communication materials, and other programme-related documents.
  • Participating in coordination and technical working groups focused on young people's development.
  • Offering technical and administrative support to implementing partners, including capacity building and regular reviews for effective programme delivery.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a strong understanding of adolescent and youth issues, particularly in the context of sexual and reproductive health. They should have experience in programme management and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. Strong analytical skills and the ability to propose innovative solutions to complex challenges are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of young people, particularly vulnerable groups.

Educational Background:
A degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in adolescent health, sexual and reproductive health, or youth development would be an advantage.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in programme management, particularly in the areas of adolescent health, youth development, or sexual and reproductive health. Experience working with UN agencies or in international development contexts is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in India would be an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer role, which may involve a contract duration that aligns with the project timeline. The role is full-time and may require occasional travel within the country to support programme implementation. Compensation and benefits will be in accordance with UNV policies.
