Job Overview:
The National Executive Advisor position is a pivotal role within the Mission Advancement Department of the American Heart Association. This position is designed for a highly motivated individual who will be responsible for advancing the AHA's mission by establishing and nurturing relationships with ultra-high-net-worth individuals. The advisor will work to increase donations, achieve mutual goals, and foster long-term relationships with donors. The role involves researching and developing a portfolio of individual donor prospects and family foundations across the country, as well as creating and implementing strategies to identify, prepare, and present proposals and accompanying materials. The advisor will leverage their expertise in mission content and charitable estate planning to create complex gift opportunities that inspire donors to give at their capacity. This position is home-based, allowing for flexibility while engaging with donors and stakeholders across the nation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Executive Advisor will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Establishing and cultivating relationships with ultra-high-net-worth individuals to advance the AHA's mission.
  • Researching and developing a portfolio of individual donor prospects and family foundations.
  • Creating and implementing strategic plans for donor engagement, including preparing and delivering compelling presentations, proposals, and grant applications.
  • Ensuring that revenue goals are met and mission priorities are funded through effective donor engagement.
  • Providing leadership and management for a portfolio of high-capacity donors, ensuring development plans are strategic and include multiple touchpoints.
  • Conducting internal and external research on prospective donors to align their goals with the AHA's mission.
  • Engaging with leadership and staff to maximize funder engagement and revenue.
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of donor interactions and activities in Salesforce CRM.
  • Participating in team projects and initiatives as requested, contributing to the overall success of the Mission Advancement Department.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the National Executive Advisor position must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Additionally, they should have five to eight years of experience in cultivating high-net-worth donor relationships, which includes writing proposals, developing budgets, and sharing outcomes. Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills are essential, along with critical thinking, judgment, and strategic decision-making abilities. The ability to travel up to 40% for local and overnight stays is also required.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, with a preference for candidates who have additional qualifications or certifications related to fundraising or philanthropy, such as Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) or Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP).

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five to eight years of relevant experience, particularly in managing and cultivating relationships with high-net-worth donors. Experience in leading cross-functional groups and facilitating strategic initiatives is also highly valued.
