Job Overview:
This internship opportunity is situated within the Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, Netherlands. The primary focus of this position is to support the Greek National Satellite Space Project, which is part of Greece's Recovery and Resilience Facility plans. The project aims to enhance Greece's capabilities in satellite technologies and ground-based facilities, facilitating data exchange and the development of satellite applications. Interns will engage in hands-on activities related to the Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) phases of CubeSat projects, working closely with experienced professionals in the field. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in satellite design, integration, and testing, while contributing to significant advancements in space technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for supporting the Assembly, Integration, and Verification (AIV) program, which includes planning and executing test campaigns for the Greek National Satellite Space Project. Key responsibilities include assisting in monitoring technical progress in AIT activities, ensuring that all requirements are implemented and verified. The intern will contribute to the integration and testing of CubeSats, working with optical payloads and Ground Support Equipment (GSE). Additionally, the intern will support the AIV Engineer in addressing technical challenges related to CubeSat integration and the implementation of the Hellenic Assembly Integration & Testing (HAIT) Facility in Greece. Regular reporting to the project team on internship progress, presenting results and analyses at the AIT-AIV level, and proposing potential solutions will also be part of the role.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master's level course. It is essential that candidates remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good knowledge of English or French is required, with knowledge of another Member State language, such as Greek, considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have knowledge and background in satellite systems or subsystem design, development, and verification/testing. Familiarity with space environmental effects in satellites and satellite telecommunication payloads/platforms will also be beneficial.
Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a university program, ideally pursuing a Master's degree in a relevant field. Candidates should be in their final or second-to-last year of study, ensuring they have the necessary academic foundation to contribute effectively to the internship.
Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates with knowledge of satellite systems, subsystem design, and verification/testing will be preferred. Experience in related fields, such as mechanical or thermal testing of satellites, will be considered an asset, as will familiarity with satellite telecommunication systems.
Languages:
The mandatory working languages of the European Space Agency are English and French. A good command of one of these languages is required for the position. Knowledge of another language from a Member State, such as Greek, is considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.
