Job Overview:
The Migration Health Officer will work under the supervision of the project manager and Migration Health officer, coordinating health activities and service delivery for the IOM BHA project. The incumbent will be responsible for clinical consultations, particularly in antenatal care (ANC) clinics, and will provide gynecological and reproductive health consultations as needed. The role involves mentoring nurses and midwives, supporting ANC services, performing specialized obstetric and gynecological ultrasound scans, and ensuring proper documentation of patient records. The officer will also provide health education and counseling, advise patients on alternative treatments, and keep abreast of the latest medical information through continuous education. The position requires participation in the design and formulation of unit policies and clinical pathways, as well as reporting on activities to supervisors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct clinical consultations during ANC clinics weekly.
- Provide gynecological and reproductive health consultations for survivors as required.
- Mentor nurses and midwives in clinical practices.
- Support ANC services and related sexual and reproductive health services.
- Perform specialized obstetric and gynecological ultrasound scans as needed.
- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of patient records.
- Provide health education and counseling, including family planning.
- Advise patients on alternative treatments they may seek.
- Stay updated with the latest medical information through continuous education. 1
- Facilitate clinical and non-clinical documentation and presentations of admitted cases. 1
- Document, summarize, and share monthly reports of activities with supervisors. 1
- Participate in the design and formulation of unit policies, SOPs, and clinical pathways. 1
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the project manager or medical officer. 1
- Adhere to hospital rules, protocols, and standard practices. 1
- Maintain high interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a diverse team. 1
- Report directly to the Migration Health Assistant and IOM National Project Officer.
Required Qualifications:
The position requires a university degree in medicine (MBBS) with a fellowship from either the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) or the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN). A minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience is essential, along with a valid license to practice in Nigeria. Candidates should possess excellent technical skills, with at least three years of continuous practice post-fellowship, and must be registered to practice in Nigeria with a valid registration license in a hospital or health setting. Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with government counterparts, international organizations, and private sector entities is crucial. Previous experience with UN or international organizations is advantageous, particularly within the humanitarian sector. Training and experience in ANC, CMR, SRHR, including SGBV, first-aid, and emergency health are also beneficial. Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office, is required, along with good communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
Educational Background:
