Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration Programmes at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, Netherlands. The role is part of the Commercialisation and Innovation Team, which is responsible for leading industry-driven innovation initiatives within the framework of the European Exploration Envelope Programme (E3P). The intern will engage in activities that promote the utilization of space exploration infrastructure and services, and will work on developing capabilities for the use of space resources to support sustained lunar and Martian exploration. The internship will provide exposure to various tasks, including technical work, event organization, and support in compiling programmatic and strategy documents, all aimed at enhancing the intern's skills and career prospects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As an intern, you will be tasked with supporting the definition, implementation, and promotion of community and commercial events related to Space Resource Utilisation. This includes assisting with the Space Resources Challenge and Space Resources Week, as well as other events. You will also support team members in technical tasks such as project reviews and updates, and help in the redaction and administration of Open Space Innovation Platform campaigns. Additionally, you will contribute to business model creation by refining existing models and gathering data to support these activities. Monitoring and reporting on advancements in Space Resources activities globally will also be part of your responsibilities. Flexibility in task assignments is expected, allowing you to gain real work experience while contributing to the development of Space Resources technology and community.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master’s level course. It is essential that candidates remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good knowledge of English or French is required, and knowledge of another language from a Member State is considered an asset. Background knowledge in Satellite System Design, Mission Analysis, and competencies in Communications & Navigation will be advantageous.
Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a university program, ideally pursuing a Master's degree. This educational background is crucial as it ensures that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the team's projects and initiatives.
Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in space resource utilization and related fields. The internship is designed to provide practical experience, so a willingness to learn and adapt to various tasks is essential. Previous involvement in relevant projects or academic work will be beneficial.
Languages:
The mandatory working languages of the European Space Agency are English and French. A good command of one of these languages is required for effective communication within the agency. Knowledge of an additional language from a Member State is considered a valuable asset, enhancing the candidate's profile.
