Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration Programmes at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, Netherlands. The role focuses on supporting the European and International Stakeholder Relations Team, which is responsible for managing relationships with ESA Member States and international partners. The intern will engage in the preparation of future activities related to the Human and Robotic Exploration (HRE) European Envelope Programme (E3P), which includes Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Moon, and Mars missions. The intern will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to analyze and consolidate programmatic information that will inform critical decisions by ESA Member States by the end of 202

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be tasked with conducting in-depth analyses of proposed concepts for the Post-ISS era, focusing on LEO infrastructure studies. Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with European industrial consortia to evaluate their proposals for new space stations and LEO infrastructure.
  • Understanding the needs of European industries and how they align with ESA's programmatic boundaries.
  • Assessing the differences between current ESA-led industrial procurements and emerging business models in the Post-ISS LEO ecosystem.
  • Synthesizing information from various sources to provide comprehensive insights into market trends and economic concepts relevant to the space sector.
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to discussions on strategic decisions and stakeholder management.
  • Developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills through practical experience in a dynamic work environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master's level course. They should have a strong understanding of market analysis principles and economic concepts, with the ability to apply analytical and strategic thinking to various sectors, particularly in space. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate hands-on knowledge of the LEO space sector and its recent trends, particularly regarding start-ups, SMEs, and Mid-Caps. Proficiency in synthesizing information from diverse sources is essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in Economics, Business, Space Studies, or a related field. Other fields may be considered if the candidate has demonstrated experience in business and operational models' analysis. Candidates must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship, ensuring they can balance academic commitments with internship responsibilities.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates should possess a strong understanding of market analysis and economic concepts. Experience in analyzing business models and operational frameworks within the space sector will be considered an asset. The internship is designed for students who are eager to learn and apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting, thus prior internships or relevant coursework will be beneficial but not required.

Languages:
The working languages of the European Space Agency are English and French. A good command of one of these languages is required for the position. Knowledge of an additional language from an ESA Member State would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to international collaboration.
