Established in 1975, ESA has grown to include 22 member states and employs over 2,200 staff members. The agency operates across multiple countries, focusing on various aspects of space exploration, including Earth observation, human spaceflight, and scientific research. ESA's mission is to provide Europe with a space capability and to foster cooperation among its member states in the field of space technology and research.

Job Overview:
The internship opportunity is situated within the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, Netherlands. The intern will work under the direct authority of the Head of the Electrical Department, specifically within the Avionics & EEE Division. This division is responsible for a wide range of activities related to avionics, data systems, microelectronics, flight software, and EEE components. The intern's primary focus will be on studying methodologies for thermal resistance and junction temperature measurement on electronic devices, which is crucial for reliability testing in space applications. The internship will involve hands-on laboratory work, where the intern will compare various techniques for measuring thermal resistance and junction temperature, ultimately leading to a comprehensive report on the findings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be tasked with conducting a preliminary bibliographic study of existing methodologies for thermal resistance and junction temperature measurement. They will then be introduced to the ESTEC laboratory, where they will utilize relevant equipment and tools to perform analyses and measurements on selected electronic devices. The intern will define a test method program for the preparation and conditioning of specimens, conduct analyses, and compile a final report detailing the applied protocols and results. The internship will also involve collaboration with other team members and participation in discussions regarding the suitability of different measurement techniques for space applications.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master's level course. They must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good knowledge of English or French is required, and knowledge of another Member State language is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have a background in semiconductor physics and bench testing implementation, which will be beneficial for the internship.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a university program, ideally pursuing a Master's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, physics, or a related discipline. The internship is designed for students who are in their final or second-to-last year of study, ensuring that they have the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the project.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates with knowledge and background in semiconductor physics and bench testing implementation will have an advantage. The internship is primarily aimed at students who are looking to gain practical experience in a professional setting, particularly in the field of space technology and engineering.

Languages:
The working languages of the European Space Agency are English and French. A good command of one of these languages is mandatory for the position. Additionally, knowledge of another language from a Member State is considered a valuable asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the diverse workforce of ESA.
