Job Overview: The Area Finance Coordinator will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the NRC Area South office in Yola, Adamawa State. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about humanitarian work and have a strong background in finance. The coordinator will be responsible for implementing NRC's financial systems and procedures, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements. The role involves preparing and submitting financial reports, managing the finance team, and supporting project staff in financial matters. The coordinator will also maintain budget control, monitor cash flow, and ensure the development and implementation of effective financial systems and procedures. Duties and Responsibilities: The Area Finance Coordinator will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: implementing NRC's financial systems and procedures at the area level; ensuring adherence to NRC policies, handbooks, guidelines, and donor requirements; preparing and submitting financial reports and analyses; maintaining proper filing of all supporting documents; supporting line managers in procedures and required team trainings; managing the finance team; ensuring accounting, monitoring, and reporting are conducted according to procedures; supporting project staff in financial matters; maintaining budget control and monitoring cash flow; ensuring compliance with global and local financial handbooks; training budget holders and staff on budget preparation and monitoring; updating shared costs spending plans; verifying vouchers and supporting documents; representing finance in bid committees; liaising with the country finance office for timely payments; assisting in budget preparation; developing monthly Budget Vs Actual reports; building staff capacity; and participating in grant application reviews and project meetings.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a BSc Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. They should have experience working as a Finance Coordinator in a humanitarian or recovery context, with documented results related to the position's responsibilities. A strong understanding of leadership skills and the ability to work in complex and volatile environments are essential. Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages is considered an added advantage, as is experience with capacity building and training of staff.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. This foundational education is crucial for understanding financial principles and practices necessary for effective performance in the role.
