Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, Netherlands, specifically within the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The TEC-QI Independent Safety Office is tasked with overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of ESA's safety policies and standards. The intern will support the team in ensuring safety standards and processes for ESA's Human Spaceflight programs and Nuclear Power Sources Safety activities. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with safety analysis and review processes, contributing to the operational and promotional aspects of safety within ESA. The intern will gain valuable insights into safety protocols and will be involved in various tasks that enhance their understanding of safety in space missions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Familiarization with Safety Review Process and Safety Requirements: Understanding ESA's Human Spaceflight/Nuclear Safety processes and standards.
  • Participation in Safety Reviews: Assisting in the review and assessment of hazards and safety controls for Human Spaceflight/Nuclear operations, documenting discussions and decisions during Safety Meetings.
  • Preparation of Safety Promotion Presentations: Creating presentations to promote safety culture and awareness within ESA.
  • Expanding ESA Human Spaceflight/Nuclear Safety FAQs: Contributing to the development of the ESA Human Spaceflight/Nuclear Safety site by identifying common safety topics.
  • ESRP Database Management: Maintaining and organizing the Human Spaceflight/Nuclear Safety database.
  • Lessons Learnt Database Management: Documenting lessons identified from flight reviews and safety assessments.
  • Writing Outreach Posts: Drafting articles related to Human Spaceflight/Nuclear Safety for the TEC-QI website.
  • Review of Safety Documents: Assisting in the review of new safety documents and templates.
  • Support in Coordination/Logistics of Safety Meetings: Aiding in the preparation and coordination of Safety Meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master’s level course. They must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good knowledge of English or French is required, and knowledge of another Member State language is considered an asset. The candidate should demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a university program, ideally pursuing a Master's degree. The internship is designed for students who are in their final or second-to-last year of study, ensuring that they have a solid academic foundation to support their work in the safety office.

Experience:
While prior experience in safety analysis or space-related fields is beneficial, it is not mandatory.
