Job Overview:
The Communication Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and understanding of WHO's work in the South-East Asia region. This position involves developing and executing communication strategies that align with WHO's mission and objectives. The incumbent will work closely with the Publication Information and Advocacy team to ensure effective internal and external communication. The role requires a strong understanding of public health issues and the ability to convey complex information in a clear and engaging manner. The Communication Officer will also oversee the management of digital communication platforms, ensuring that content is relevant and consistent with WHO's branding and messaging. This position is vital for fostering public awareness and support for WHO's initiatives and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute communication strategies in consultation with the Publication Information and Advocacy team.
  • Manage the organization's digital communication platforms, ensuring content consistency and relevance.
  • Collaborate with Technical Units to draft and finalize speeches and articles for the Regional Director.
  • Review and finalize speeches and advocacy messages for the Regional Director's webpage.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations in all communication content.
  • Finalize forewords on behalf of the Regional Director for technical publications.
  • Design and develop a comprehensive brand strategy for WHO's Regional Office for South-East Asia.
  • Coordinate with Technical Units to develop and execute digital campaign strategies.
  • Create engaging designs for various digital platforms, including social media and websites. 1
  • Generate multimedia content to enhance digital campaigns and user engagement. 1
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • Excellent writing and editorial skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of communication approaches, tools, and methodologies essential for effective campaign strategies.
  • Ability to stay updated with available technology and communication trends.
  • Strong teamwork and partnership-building skills.
  • Respect for individual and cultural differences, promoting inclusivity in communication efforts.

Educational Background:
A university degree in social sciences, communication, and/or journalism from a recognized university is essential for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding public health communication and advocacy.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required, including some experience in an international context within the fields of journalism and development sector communication. Experience in managing official social media channels and content management is desirable, as it demonstrates the ability to engage with diverse audiences effectively.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is essential for this position. Intermediate knowledge of another UN language is desirable, as it can enhance communication with a broader audience and facilitate collaboration with international partners.

Additional Notes:
The position offers a competitive remuneration package, including an annual base salary starting at USD 64,121, along with a variable post adjustment reflecting the cost of living in New Delhi. Additional benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
