Job Overview:
The Data Manager position is crucial for supporting WHO's objectives to reduce childhood morbidity and mortality due to vaccine-preventable diseases. The role involves the collection, analysis, production, and dissemination of critical health data and information. The Data Manager will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely reporting of health indicators, epidemic bulletins, and situation reports. This position requires a proactive approach to data management, ensuring that information is accessible and effectively utilized for decision-making in public health initiatives. The Data Manager will also participate in field epidemiological surveys and contribute to the planning and management of data processes, ensuring quality assurance and performance monitoring.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Manager will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Supporting the collection and analysis of health data, including internal and external situation reports, epidemic bulletins, and health risk assessments.
  • Aggregating and maintaining inter-country information from WHO and partners, including performance monitoring and health indicator data.
  • Participating in geographic analysis for maps and reports, contributing to dashboards and inter-sectoral reports.
  • Providing information management input into planning processes, focusing on data gathering, quality assurance, and information dissemination.
  • Participating in field epidemiological surveys as needed, such as mortality and vaccination coverage surveys.
  • Performing all other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in information or data management, computer sciences, statistics, applied mathematics, public health, or a related field. A specialization in information management systems and specific training in humanitarian response or emergency information management is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to design, manage, and analyze complex information systems and have a high level of analytical skills. Knowledge of program management and the functioning of WHO and the UN system is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a first-level university degree in relevant fields such as information management, computer sciences, statistics, applied mathematics, or public health. Additional specialization in information management systems is desirable, along with training in humanitarian response or emergency information management.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of related experience in information management, monitoring, and data analysis. Relevant work experience with WHO, other UN agencies, or non-governmental organizations in developing countries is desirable. Experience in managing complex information systems and data analysis projects is essential for this role.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is essential for this position. While not mandatory, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of working in diverse environments.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a National Professional Officer role, meaning that only applications from nationals of Somalia will be accepted. The remuneration for this position starts at an annual base salary of USD 47,967, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. The role includes 30 days of annual leave. Candidates should be aware that a written test and/or an asynchronous video assessment may be used as part of the screening process.
