Job Overview:
The Sr. Mission Advancement Individual Giving Advisor is a pivotal role within the American Heart Association, focusing on cultivating and managing relationships with individual donors who have a significant capacity to contribute to the organization’s mission. This position is responsible for a portfolio of principal gift prospects and donors, primarily in the Western States region of the U.S. The advisor will engage with donors to secure substantial contributions, aiming to close over $2.5 million annually. The role requires a deep understanding of the AHA’s fundraising priorities and the ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to potential donors. The advisor will work collaboratively with various teams to develop strategies for donor engagement and fundraising initiatives, ensuring that the AHA continues to advance its mission of promoting health and hope for everyone, everywhere.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Sr. Mission Advancement Individual Giving Advisor include:
  • Cultivating and managing a portfolio of approximately 50 individual donors with a giving capacity in the seven-figure range, ensuring a minimum of 100 meaningful interactions with donors and prospective donors each fiscal year.
  • Conducting solicitations for 24 seven-figure gifts annually for both restricted and unrestricted purposes.
  • Collaborating with field directors to identify and cultivate principal gift prospects that align with market, regional, and national priorities.
  • Creating and executing customized engagement strategies for donors and prospects to foster growth in donor relationships.
  • Working with the Mission Advancement team to gather project information, including budgets, and developing presentations and proposals to secure gifts.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all donor interactions and activities in the Salesforce CRM database, and regularly reporting on plans, activities, trends, and results to leadership.
  • Participating in training activities and collaborating with team members to develop programs and strategies that enhance revenue development for the AHA.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, along with a minimum of five years of experience in fundraising. Candidates should have at least three years of experience focused on individual major and principal gifts, preferably in support of large-scale health-related research or community issues. Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing engagement opportunities that align with organizational goals is essential. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working with complex philanthropic donors and achieving fundraising results at the six-figure level and higher. Strong collaborative skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders are also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. The educational background should ideally include coursework or training related to fundraising, nonprofit management, or a relevant field that supports the mission of the American Heart Association.
