Job Overview:
The Sr. Mission Advancement Individual Giving Advisor is a pivotal role within the American Heart Association, primarily responsible for managing a portfolio of individual principal gift prospects and donors in the Western States region of the U.S. This position is designed for a highly motivated individual who will engage with current and past donors, fostering relationships that lead to significant contributions to the AHA's mission. The advisor will be expected to close over $2.5 million annually from individual donors, serving as a subject matter expert on the AHA’s fundraising priorities. The role emphasizes collaboration, relationship-building, and strategic engagement with high-capacity donors, ensuring that their philanthropic interests align with the AHA's mission. The advisor will also have access to extensive resources, including training and support, to facilitate their success in this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Sr. Mission Advancement Individual Giving Advisor include:
  • Conducting a minimum of 100 meaningful interactions with donors and prospective donors each fiscal year, managing a portfolio of approximately 50 individual donors with significant giving capacity.
  • Soliciting 24 seven-figure gifts annually for both restricted and unrestricted purposes.
  • Collaborating with field directors to identify and cultivate principal gift prospects that align with market, regional, and national priorities.
  • Developing and executing customized engagement strategies for donors and prospects to enhance relationships and secure donations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all donor interactions and activities in the Salesforce CRM database, reporting on plans, trends, and results to leadership.
  • Participating in training and collaborating with team members to advance revenue development initiatives for the AHA.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, along with a minimum of five years of experience in fundraising. Candidates should have at least three years of experience focused on individual major and principal gifts, preferably in support of large-scale health research or community health initiatives. Demonstrated experience in engaging complex philanthropic donors and achieving fundraising results at the six-figure level or higher is essential. Strong collaborative skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, and donors, are also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or have equivalent work experience that demonstrates their capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role. The educational background should ideally include coursework or training related to fundraising, nonprofit management, or a related discipline that supports the mission of the American Heart Association.
