Job Overview:
The Finance Coordinator is responsible for implementing the delegated area of financial management within NRC's operations. This role involves ensuring adherence to NRC's policies and procedures, as well as donor requirements. The Finance Coordinator will oversee the financial aspects of projects, including budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting. The position requires a proactive approach to financial management, supporting project staff in financial matters, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The Finance Coordinator will also be involved in training and supporting the finance team, ensuring that all financial processes are carried out efficiently and effectively. This role is critical in maintaining the financial integrity of NRC's operations in the area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Coordinator will implement NRC’s systems and procedures at the area level, ensuring adherence to NRC policies, handbooks, guidelines, and donor requirements. Key responsibilities include preparing and submitting financial reports and analyses, maintaining proper filing of support documents, and supporting line managers in procedures and training for the support team. The Finance Coordinator will ensure that accounting, monitoring, and reporting are conducted according to NRC’s and donor procedures. Specific duties include assisting the Area Manager in cash forecasts, maintaining overall budget control, monitoring cash flows and expenditures, preparing donor financial reports, and ensuring compliance with financial procedures. The role also involves training and appraising Finance Officers and Assistants, attending Area Management Group meetings, and managing the distribution of staff salaries and benefits.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Finance Coordinator in a humanitarian or recovery context. Previous experience in complex and volatile environments is essential, along with documented results related to the position's responsibilities. Candidates should possess strong leadership skills and be fluent in English, both written and verbal. Knowledge of financial management systems and procedures is also required, along with the ability to analyze financial data and provide insights to management.
Educational Background:
A relevant degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required for this position. Professional certifications in finance or accounting (such as CPA or ACCA) are advantageous and may enhance a candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in financial coordination within humanitarian or recovery contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing financial processes, preparing budgets, and ensuring compliance with donor regulations. Experience in training and managing finance teams is also important, as the Finance Coordinator will supervise Finance Officers and Assistants.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with donors. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the operational context may be considered an asset but is not required.
