Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Directorate of Commercialisation, Industry and Competitiveness at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, Netherlands. The primary focus of this internship is on Product Mapping, specifically aimed at enhancing the supplier performance evaluation process. Interns will be tasked with developing a database-like tool that will serve as an evolved space product tree, which is essential for the supplier performance evaluation process. This tool will be designed to be user-friendly and compatible with PowerBI, facilitating easy maintenance and cross-exploitation with existing product trees utilized by various stakeholders. Interns will gain insights into the current products used in space, the mission definitions by Large System Integrators (LSI), and the internal structure of ESA, including how program directorates utilize data for reporting and analysis. This internship presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the expansion of the evaluation exercise across all directorates and to understand the capabilities of different ESA Member States.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop a database-like tool for an evolved space product tree to be used in supplier performance evaluation.
- Collaborate with the Directorate of Commercialisation, Industry and Competitiveness and the Directorate of Technology to ensure the tool meets the necessary requirements.
- Review and adapt the existing product tree to include various segments such as flight, ground, and downstream products.
- Engage with other directorates to gather input and validate the product tree evolution.
- Analyze and map the enlarged supplier performance evaluation product tree against existing product trees from other stakeholders.
- Conduct research on the socio-economic impact of space programs and market analyses.
- Participate in meetings and discussions with relevant parties to ensure alignment and cooperation.
- Document the process and findings to provide a comprehensive overview of the project outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master's level course. They must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good knowledge of English or French is required, with additional languages being an asset. Knowledge in aerospace engineering and proficiency in IT tools such as PowerBI, SharePoint, and Access are highly valued. Programming skills, while not mandatory, would enhance the ability to perform duties effectively.
Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a Master's degree in a relevant field, such as aerospace engineering, economics, or a related discipline. The candidate should be in their final or second-to-last year of study, ensuring they have sufficient academic background to contribute meaningfully to the internship.
Experience:
While specific prior experience is not required, familiarity with aerospace engineering concepts, economic analysis, or data management tools will be beneficial. Interns should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the requirements of the position, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Languages:
The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good command of one of these languages is mandatory, while knowledge of another language from an ESA Member State is considered an asset.
