Job Overview:
The GEDSI and Safeguarding Technical Advisor position is a full-time, permanent role based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. This role is integral to the Pacific Regional team, focusing on creating lasting change for children through technical leadership and support. The advisor will be responsible for enhancing the quality and impact of programs by providing technical assistance in the development and review of concept notes and proposals. The position requires a strong commitment to gender equity, disability, and social inclusion, ensuring that these principles are embedded in all program activities. The advisor will also undertake GEDSI analysis to inform program direction, design and implement relevant activities, and contribute to the development of robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks. This role is contingent upon Save the Children being awarded the contract for the Pacific program, highlighting the importance of successful tendering in the recruitment process.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The GEDSI and Safeguarding Technical Advisor will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing technical assistance in the development and review of high-quality concept notes and proposals across various technical areas.
  • Conducting GEDSI analysis to inform program direction and activities, ensuring that gender equity and social inclusion are prioritized.
  • Designing and implementing GEDSI, Safeguarding, and PSEAH activities that align with organizational goals.
  • Improving the quality, innovativeness, and scale of interventions while documenting learning outcomes.
  • Contributing to the creation of robust GEDSI monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEAL) frameworks in new proposals.
  • Representing Save the Children to potential funders in Papua New Guinea as the national GEDSI Technical Advisor.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness and reach.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development to stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in gender equity and social inclusion.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the GEDSI and Safeguarding Technical Advisor position must possess the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in gender equity, disability, and social inclusion work, community development, or program quality control, particularly in the Pacific region.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Science, International Relations, Community Development, Social Work, or related disciplines, or equivalent training and experience with a specialization in social development and gender studies.
  • Expert knowledge of inclusion principles, gender equality, gender transformative approaches, and methods for engaging men and boys in gender rights advocacy.
  • Familiarity with PSEAH and other safeguarding policies, along with practical experience in their application.
  • Thematic experience in supporting renewable energy programs and climate change-related programming is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Social Science, International Relations, Community Development, or Social Work. Candidates with equivalent training or experience, particularly those specializing in social development and gender studies, will also be considered. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of gender equity, disability, and social inclusion work.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant work experience in areas such as gender equity, disability, social inclusion, community development, and program quality control.
