Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant will work under the supervision of the Protection Officer and the Senior Protection Assistant, playing a crucial role in implementing IOM protection case management activities in Tripoli. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting regular protection monitoring visits to locations where vulnerable populations, including migrants, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities, reside. This position requires conducting vulnerability screenings and in-depth assessments, preparing protection assessment reports, and identifying urgent protection needs and potential solutions. The Protection Assistant will also prepare assistance plans, provide follow-up and referrals, and facilitate focus group discussions on protection concerns. The role emphasizes adherence to protection principles and IOM policies, ensuring comprehensive case records and timely reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Protection Assistant include:
  • Conducting regular protection monitoring visits to assigned locations.
  • Performing vulnerability screenings and in-depth assessments, preparing reports to identify urgent needs.
  • Assisting in identifying urgent protection needs and developing longer-term plans.
  • Preparing assistance plans and ensuring timely follow-up and referrals within IOM and to partner organizations.
  • Identifying and referring vulnerable cases for voluntary humanitarian return, coordinating with relevant teams and representatives.
  • Facilitating focus group discussions with target groups and service providers on protection issues.
  • Serving as the primary contact for beneficiaries, initiating family tracing requests, and maintaining tracking records.
  • Participating in awareness-raising events and supporting IOM training sessions.
  • Ensuring adherence to protection principles and IOM policies throughout all work facets. 1
  • Maintaining up-to-date case records and completing data entry and reporting requirements promptly. 1
  • Representing IOM Protection at relevant meetings and participating in case-management discussions. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Protection Assistant position include:
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Case Management Software.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Protection Assistant position typically includes a degree in social sciences, international relations, humanitarian studies, or a related field. Relevant certifications or training in protection, case management, or humanitarian assistance may also be beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in protection, humanitarian assistance, or related fields. Experience working with vulnerable populations, conducting assessments, and implementing protection programs is highly desirable. Familiarity with IOM policies and procedures is an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French is considered an advantage, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders and beneficiaries.
