Job Overview:
The position of Protection Assistant (Child Protection) is integral to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which has been operational since 195
  • IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration, dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Senior Protection Associate and the Senior Child Protection Assistant, conducting all steps of the case management process for assigned cases. This role involves regular protection monitoring visits, conducting Best Interest Assessments (BIA) for unaccompanied migrant children, and overseeing the referral of cases to partner organizations. The candidate will also assist in identifying urgent protection needs and contribute to training and capacity-building activities, ensuring adherence to protection principles and IOM policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Protection Assistant (Child Protection) include:
  • Conducting regular protection monitoring visits to detention centers and other locations where vulnerable populations reside, preparing protection assessment reports.
  • Performing Best Interest Assessments for unaccompanied migrant children to identify urgent needs and potential solutions.
  • Preparing Best Interest Determination reports and participating in BID panels.
  • Overseeing the referral of cases to relevant partner organizations for follow-up.
  • Identifying urgent protection needs and proposing long-term solutions.
  • Referring vulnerable cases for voluntary humanitarian return and coordinating with relevant teams and embassies.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of training and capacity-building activities.
  • Participating in awareness-raising events and workshops.
  • Contributing to the review of materials related to child protection and case management tools. 1
  • Preparing regular reports on child protection, including human interest stories. 1
  • Maintaining protection-related case management records and providing data analysis while adhering to IOM's data protection policy. 1
  • Ensuring adherence to protection principles and IOM policies throughout all work facets. 1
  • Participating in BID meetings with UN sister agencies.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Protection Assistant (Child Protection) position include:
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in protection and assistance to vulnerable populations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
