Job Overview:
The position of National Consultant for Feasibility Study involves conducting a comprehensive study aimed at establishing an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) center in the Ziarat Juniper Biosphere Reserve (ZJBR) in Balochistan. The consultant will assess the practicality and potential success of implementing a specialized curriculum focused on environmental conservation and sustainability. This role requires the consultant to identify innovative and context-appropriate teaching strategies that align with the unique environmental and cultural context of ZJBR. The consultant will also propose guidelines for a specialized training curriculum for teachers, addressing key themes such as climate change mitigation, biodiversity protection, and community engagement in environmental stewardship. The overarching goal is to foster a deep sense of environmental responsibility among learners and the local community, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will perform a variety of duties, including conducting a contextual analysis of the environmental, socio-cultural, and economic context of ZJBR to support ESD interventions. This involves literature reviews, focus group discussions, site visits, and meetings with key informants. The consultant will assess the educational needs of institutions, teachers, students, and the community, identifying gaps in current educational content related to sustainability and environmental conservation. Additionally, the consultant will devise a proposed future plan of action for enhancing ESD in ZJBR, which includes strategies for teacher professional development, infrastructure development for the establishment of an ESD center, and community engagement initiatives. The consultant will also be responsible for submitting deliverables such as inception reports, draft reports, and final reports with recommendations based on their findings.
Required Qualifications:
The position requires a master’s degree in social science, environmental education, educational research, or a related field. The consultant should have at least five years of experience in conducting research or assessment studies related to ecological and educational needs, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Experience in curriculum review with a focus on integrating sustainability and local knowledge into educational content is also desirable, along with experience in stakeholder engagement, particularly with local communities. Strong communication, analytical, and report-writing skills are essential, as well as proficiency in MS Office and a good understanding of government functioning.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a master’s degree in a relevant field such as social science, environmental education, or educational research. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of environmental education and the socio-cultural dynamics of the region.
Experience:
The consultant should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience, particularly in conducting research and assessments that identify ecological and educational needs. Experience in curriculum development and stakeholder engagement is also important, with a preference for candidates who have completed at least three relevant projects.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Urdu is mandatory, with proficiency in any additional local languages being an advantage. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication with diverse stakeholders in the region.
