Job Overview:
The Advisor, Charitable Estate Planning position is a vital role within the American Heart Association, focusing on engaging with prospects and donors to promote charitable estate gifts. This home-based position requires the individual to be located in Florida, preferably near a major airport, and will involve working within a defined regional territory that includes states such as Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Puerto Rico. The primary responsibilities include identifying and cultivating relationships with potential donors, providing consultation on estate and tax planning, and fostering a culture of stewardship among legacy society members. The role also involves utilizing Salesforce for managing donor information and creating personalized prospect plans to enhance solicitation efforts. The AHA emphasizes the importance of work-life harmonization and provides various resources and training opportunities to support the professional development of its employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Advisor, Charitable Estate Planning include:
  • Initiating communication with leads requesting information about charitable estate planning from the AHA within the assigned territory.
  • Developing a dynamic cultivation plan to nurture promising leads effectively.
  • Providing consultation on estate and tax planning, ensuring up-to-date knowledge of tax law changes related to charitable giving.
  • Fostering stewardship among members of the Paul Dudley White Legacy Society by customizing communication and demonstrating the impact of charitable gifts.
  • Creating and maintaining detailed prospect plans for successful solicitation of engaged prospects and donors.
  • Utilizing Salesforce to manage information on charitable estate planning donors, prospects, volunteers, and estate planning professionals.
  • Supplying CEP illustrations using Crescendo Interactive software and reviewing estate plans with prospects to secure gifts for the AHA.
  • Making presentations on gift planning techniques at various meetings and community events.
  • Collaborating with local association staff to coordinate CEP activities with other organizational efforts and keeping staff and volunteers updated on progress.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of proven experience in planned giving or individual fundraising, estate planning, and a solid understanding of intestacy laws, federal estate tax, federal income tax, and state inheritance taxes.
  • A successful track record of completing gift agreements, particularly split-interest gifts, through personal interviews.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of deferred gift and estate planning vehicles.
  • Thorough understanding of charitable estate fundraising and demonstrated skills in donor relationship building and stewardship.
  • Proven ability to implement charitable estate planning strategies efficiently.
  • Willingness to travel 50% of the time and work weekends and evenings as necessary.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of estate planning and charitable giving, as well as for effectively communicating with donors and prospects.

Experience:
The level of experience needed for this position is at least five (5) years in a relevant field, such as planned giving, estate planning, or individual fundraising. This experience should include a proven record of successfully completing gift agreements and a strong understanding of the legal and tax implications of charitable giving.

Languages:
While English is mandatory for this position, being bilingual, particularly in Spanish, is considered a preferred qualification. This language skill can enhance communication with a broader range of donors and prospects, thereby increasing the effectiveness of fundraising efforts.
