Job Overview:
The Advisor, Charitable Estate Planning position is a pivotal role within the American Heart Association, focusing on engaging with prospects and donors to secure charitable estate gifts. This home-based position requires the individual to be located in Florida, preferably near a major airport, and will involve working within a defined regional territory that includes states such as Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Puerto Rico. The advisor will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with potential donors, ensuring that they are informed about the philanthropic opportunities available through the AHA. The role emphasizes the importance of maintaining a culture of stewardship and providing comprehensive consultation regarding estate and tax planning, as well as charitable giving strategies. The advisor will also collaborate with other staff members to enhance the overall philanthropic efforts of the organization, ensuring that all supporters are aware of the various ways they can contribute to the AHA's mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Advisor, Charitable Estate Planning include: initiating communication with leads requesting information about charitable estate planning; developing and implementing a dynamic cultivation plan for promising leads; providing consultation on estate and tax planning, as well as charitable giving; fostering stewardship among members of the Paul Dudley White Legacy Society; creating and maintaining detailed prospect plans for successful solicitations; utilizing Salesforce to manage donor and prospect information; supplying CEP illustrations and reviewing estate plans with prospects; making presentations on gift planning techniques at various meetings and events; coordinating CEP activities with local association staff; and keeping relevant staff and volunteers updated on progress and activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this position must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience, along with at least five years of proven experience in planned giving or individual fundraising. A solid understanding of estate planning, intestacy laws, federal estate tax, federal income tax, and state inheritance taxes is essential. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of completing gift agreements, particularly split-interest gifts, and will demonstrate strong public speaking and communication skills. Comprehensive knowledge of deferred gift and estate planning vehicles, as well as the ability to build and maintain donor relationships, is crucial. Candidates should also have experience in identifying prospects for deferred gift commitments and implementing charitable estate planning strategies effectively.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position, although equivalent work experience may be considered. The educational background should ideally include coursework or training related to estate planning, tax law, or fundraising, which would provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of charitable estate planning.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in planned giving, individual fundraising, or estate planning. Candidates should have a proven record of success in completing gift agreements and a strong understanding of the legal and financial aspects of charitable giving. Experience in public speaking and donor relationship management is also essential, as the advisor will be expected to engage with prospects and present information effectively.

Languages:
While English is mandatory, being bilingual in Spanish is preferred and would be considered an asset for this position, allowing for better communication with a diverse range of donors and prospects.
