Job Overview: The Health Emergency Coordinator will play a pivotal role in managing and coordinating health emergency responses. This position requires a proactive approach to assess needs, analyze gaps, and lead health sector evaluations during emergencies. The coordinator will be responsible for gathering information from health partners, ensuring that all health needs of affected populations are met, and facilitating strategic planning for health interventions. The role demands a strong understanding of public health emergencies and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure effective health service delivery in crisis situations. The coordinator will also oversee the integration of health responses into broader humanitarian action plans and ensure compliance with national and international health standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead rapid health needs assessments and participatory evaluations in emergency settings.
Collect and manage data on health service provision from partners and maintain updated databases.
Collaborate with health sector members to develop humanitarian needs overviews and action plans.
Ensure adherence to health response standards and monitor the integration of cross-cutting issues.
Facilitate coordination among health partners and ensure their involvement in health sector evaluations.
Identify technical gaps and urgent training needs among health partners and facilitate capacity-building initiatives.
Establish connections between humanitarian actions and long-term health sector plans.
Organize consultative meetings and joint field missions to support operational activities.
Coordinate the development of monitoring frameworks for health sector plans. 1
Advocate for health sector priorities and represent the health group in coordination mechanisms. 1
Identify key advocacy concerns through consultative processes and develop joint initiatives. 1
Ensure compliance with WHO's ethical standards and promote a safe workplace environment.
Required Qualifications: Essential: A Master's degree in public health, medicine, or international health. Desirable: Specialized training in emergency management, international aid, humanitarian principles, health system recovery, and sector coordination.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a higher education degree (Master's) in a relevant field such as public health, medicine, or international health. Specialized training in emergency management and humanitarian principles is desirable.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 7 years of experience in national and international emergency operations and humanitarian aid, including management and coordination of health programs during chronic, acute, or sudden emergencies. Experience with WHO or other UN agencies, NGOs, or humanitarian organizations is desirable.
Languages: Essential: Expert knowledge of French. Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of English is preferred.
Additional Notes: The position offers a competitive salary starting at USD 77,326, with additional benefits including a variable post adjustment, annual leave, allowances for dependents, and an education grant for children.
