Job Overview:
The Health Promotion and Social Determinants of Health Specialist will play a crucial role in leading efforts to reduce health inequities and promote health and well-being across various populations. The incumbent will serve as a country focal point for health promotion, social determinants of health, and health equity, with a focus on integrating these elements into public health agendas. The position requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders to develop and implement policies and strategies that address social determinants of health, including gender and ethnicity, as well as the impacts of climate change on public health. The specialist will also be responsible for providing technical advice, conducting capacity assessments, and fostering partnerships to enhance multidisciplinary collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: 1) Providing leadership and serving as the country focal point for health promotion and social determinants of health. 2) Leading the development and review of national policies and programs for health promotion. 3) Coordinating multi-stakeholder dialogues to promote health and address social determinants of health. 4) Providing technical advice and support to countries on health promotion strategies. 5) Creating and enhancing partnerships to strengthen collaboration on health equity. 6) Documenting lessons learned and best practices in addressing social determinants of health. 7) Advising on climate change impacts on public health. 8) Guiding on environmental health issues. 9) Supporting the integration of health equity into the country office's work. 10) Participating in project proposal formulation and monitoring. 11) Supervising staff and conducting performance appraisals. 12) Performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in health or social science and a master’s degree in public health or a related field from a recognized institution. Essential qualifications include nine years of combined national and international experience in technical cooperation programs addressing health determinants and equity. Desirable qualifications include experience managing complex international programs related to social determinants of health and equity, as well as experience in public health management focusing on climate change.

Educational Background:
A university degree in health or social science is essential, along with a master’s degree in public health or a related field. Degrees must be from accredited institutions recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED). Candidates will be required to provide scanned copies of their degrees during the interview process.

Experience:
The position requires nine years of combined national and international experience in technical cooperation programs and projects that address health determinants and equity. Proven experience in managing complex international programs related to social determinants of health is highly desirable, as is experience in public health management with a focus on climate change and health services.

Languages:
Very good knowledge of English is mandatory. A working knowledge of Spanish or French would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multilingual environment.

The annual salary for this position is USD $77,326.00, with a post adjustment of 70.2%, which may vary due to currency exchange rates. The position may be subject to mobility, meaning candidates could be assigned to various activities or duty stations globally.
