Job Overview:
The Community Impact Director will play a crucial role in driving health impact goals within the Northern New England area, specifically focusing on Vermont, New Hampshire, Central Massachusetts, and Southern Maine. This position is designed for a candidate who is passionate about public health and community engagement, with a strong emphasis on addressing issues such as hypertension, cholesterol, nutrition, obesity, and physical activity, particularly within diverse communities. The Director will be responsible for leading collective community impact efforts, collaborating with volunteers, strategic alliances, and institutions to implement effective health strategies. The role requires a proactive approach to building partnerships and mobilizing resources to achieve the AHA's health objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Community Impact Director include engaging in community impact efforts by leading and supporting initiatives in partnership with key volunteers and organizations. The Director will build and implement a comprehensive hypertension and cholesterol control strategy, focusing on high blood pressure management, nutrition access, and healthy behavior initiatives. This role involves recruiting, training, and leading volunteers and community alliances to meet priority community goals. The Director will also work closely with internal staff to ensure that population health strategies are integrated into various organizational activities, including development, communications, and advocacy. Additionally, the Director will collaborate with development staff to secure funding for programs and campaigns, ensuring that community health needs are met effectively.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 3 years of proven experience in community or public health issues, including running health promotion or educational programs. A strong ability to interact with diverse socio-economic groups and acculturation levels is essential. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated track record of recruiting and leading volunteers, including high-level executives, and possess critical thinking skills to assess local market environments. The ability to manage large projects and events while ensuring compliance with deadlines is crucial. Candidates should also be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team environment and have the ability to influence team members without direct supervisory authority. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for local travel, which may be up to 75% of the time.
Educational Background:
While a Bachelor's degree is preferred, candidates with some college education combined with relevant experience will also be considered. The educational background should ideally include studies related to public health, community health, or a similar field that supports the responsibilities of the position.
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in community health issues is required, with a focus on public health promotion and community engagement. Candidates should have experience working with multicultural communities and a solid understanding of the social determinants of health as they relate to behavior modification and policy changes. Experience in collaborating with local health systems and organizations is also preferred.
Languages:

This is a full-time position with the American Heart Association.
