Job Overview:
The Desk Operazioni Prima Emergenza operates from the Milan headquarters within COOPI's international activities area. This position is responsible for planning and implementing COOPI's humanitarian response during the initial phase of emergency interventions. The role involves collaboration with various support offices at the headquarters to assist regional coordinations and country coordinations in the ongoing analysis of major humanitarian crises in the areas and countries where COOPI is active. The desk may also support the feasibility and implementation of new emergency interventions upon request from the International Activities Manager. Additionally, it aids in the preparation and delivery of internal training on emergency management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Propose intervention priorities in emergency projects while managing relationships with key international funders.
- Evaluate, in conjunction with the International Activities Manager, new interventions on specific themes or areas, assessing their feasibility with donors.
- Determine whether to implement emergency projects in countries where COOPI operates, based on available funding opportunities.
- Design and implement activities for new interventions on specific themes or areas.
- Participate in workshops and meetings organized by key funders and other actors in the emergency sector.
- Promote meetings with key funders.
- Support Country Coordinations in program implementation, activating COOPI's relevant structures.
- Address various operational needs for emergency projects.
- Organize specific training activities for emergency project management. 1
- Conduct monitoring and assistance missions to ensure the proper and harmonious development of complex humanitarian projects. 1
- Provide support to foreign offices on specific initiatives in emergency projects, as directed by the International Activities Manager. 1
- Facilitate the transition of oversight to the geographical area of the project once the initial phase is consolidated.
Required Qualifications:
Essential qualifications include a University/Postgraduate degree, preferably in a field related to International Cooperation. A minimum of 5 years of overall work experience in complex structures is required, along with prior experience abroad in humanitarian interventions. The candidate must be available to undertake missions abroad for 30% of the time. Excellent knowledge of French and English is mandatory, along with strong prioritization and organizational skills under tight deadlines. The candidate should possess excellent adaptability to changing priorities and urgency, strong communication and relational skills with various internal and external stakeholders, flexibility, listening skills, discretion, resilience to stress, and the ability to respond quickly. An interest and aptitude for working in an international environment, proficiency in the Office suite, and respect for the organization's values are also essential.
Educational Background:
A University/Postgraduate degree is required, preferably in a field related to International Cooperation.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of overall work experience in complex structures, with prior experience in humanitarian interventions abroad being essential.
Languages:
Fluency in French and English is mandatory. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable but not required.
