Job Overview:
The Program Consultant Healthcare Quality – Post Acute Stroke position is a vital role within the American Heart Association, focusing on the implementation of quality improvement programs aimed at enhancing care for patients with cardiovascular disease, particularly in South Dakota. This position is home-based, allowing for flexibility while supporting the National Center office in Dallas, TX. The consultant will be responsible for educating and motivating healthcare providers to adhere to the AHA guidelines, improving clinical processes, and ensuring that projects are delivered within budget and on time. The role requires collaboration with various departments within the AHA to ensure the success of the initiatives. This full-time position is grant-funded, with current funding set to expire on June 30, 2027, although there is a possibility for extension. The AHA provides numerous resources to support work-life harmonization and professional development, including access to Heart U, the organization’s corporate university.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: driving the implementation of quality improvement projects that align with AHA guidelines for treating cardiovascular disease; providing consultation and support through learning cohorts to identify strategies for improving patient outcomes; building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders and volunteers; facilitating learning cohort meetings and local conferences; developing program implementation strategies that align with initiative objectives; serving as the primary contact for ongoing resources needed by hospitals and clinics; establishing sustainability plans for all components of the grant; developing clinical decision support tools in collaboration with clinicians; recruiting program participants and working with clinical care teams to address barriers to guideline adoption; communicating regularly with the Senior Manager to ensure tasks are completed according to grant timelines; and managing project documents, including budgets, timelines, and status reports for both internal and external audiences.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience, along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Experience in a post-acute clinical setting, particularly related to stroke care, is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have experience in healthcare or public health organizations, focusing on clinical quality improvement, program development, and systems improvement. Proficiency in project management, including budget management, timeline oversight, and effective communication with team members and stakeholders, is essential. Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills are required, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact with all levels of AHA staff, volunteers, and the public. Comprehensive skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) are necessary, and candidates should be willing to travel up to 15% of the time, including overnight stays in South Dakota.
