Job Overview:
The Program Consultant Healthcare Quality – Post Acute Stroke position is a vital role within the American Heart Association, focusing on the implementation of quality improvement programs aimed at enhancing care for patients with cardiovascular disease, particularly in South Dakota. This position is home-based, allowing for flexibility while supporting the National Center office in Dallas, TX. The consultant will be responsible for educating healthcare providers on best practices and guidelines, motivating them to improve treatment processes, and ensuring that projects are completed within budget and on schedule. The role requires collaboration with various departments within the AHA to achieve success in program delivery and to foster relationships with stakeholders and volunteers. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Consultant will drive the implementation of quality improvement projects that align with American Heart Association guidelines for treating cardiovascular disease. Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing consultation, direction, and support through learning cohorts to identify strategies for improving patient outcomes.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including volunteers.
  • Facilitating learning cohort meetings and local conferences in collaboration with volunteers and staff partners.
  • Developing program implementation strategies that align with initiative objectives and establishing sustainability plans for all components of the grant.
  • Creating clinical decision support tools and collaborating with clinicians to enhance care delivery.
  • Recruiting program participants and working with clinical care teams to address barriers to guideline adoption.
  • Communicating regularly with the Senior Manager to ensure tasks are completed according to grant timelines.
  • Managing project documentation, including budgets, timelines, and status reports for both internal and external audiences.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience, along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Experience in a post-acute clinical setting, particularly related to post-acute stroke care, is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have experience in healthcare or public health organizations, focusing on clinical quality improvement, program development, and systems improvement. Proficiency in project management, including budget management and communication with stakeholders, is essential. Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills are required, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Comprehensive skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, are necessary. Candidates should also be willing to travel up to 15% of the time, including overnight stays in South Dakota.
