Job Overview:
The Virtual Caseworker position is a critical role within the IRC's Virtual Reception & Placement (VR&P) program, which aims to assist Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders and other humanitarian parolees in their resettlement journey in the United States. The role involves utilizing a personalized virtual case management model to provide direct assistance, client-led case management, and resources for successful resettlement. The caseworker will coordinate pre- and post-arrival services, conduct client intake assessments, and provide individualized support through referrals and advocacy. This position requires a strong commitment to serving refugee and SIV newcomers, ensuring that their needs are met in a trauma-informed and client-centered manner. The caseworker will also be responsible for tracking client progress and collaborating with various stakeholders to facilitate effective service delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Virtual Caseworker include:
- Coordinating timely pre- and post-arrival services for all assigned cases, ensuring that clients receive the necessary support throughout their resettlement process.
- Conducting intake services with clients to assess their needs, including completing a Client Needs Assessment for each adult on a case.
- Providing individualized support through direct services, referrals, and advocacy to help clients navigate available resources.
- Assessing and monitoring client progress to support their attainment of established goals, addressing challenges, and ensuring that resources are utilized effectively.
- Documenting each client interaction in accordance with program requirements, inputting client information into databases, and assisting with tracking and reporting as needed.
- Collaborating effectively with coworkers and partner organizations to build and maintain relationships with area service providers for the benefit of clients.
- Performing other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the IRC and the VR&P program.
Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Virtual Caseworker position include:
- A Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field of study is preferred.
- Relevant professional experience in the human services field is required, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of benefits and state-funded resources for refugees and referral pathways in states such as California, Washington, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Wisconsin, Montana, or Texas is preferred.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work independently and fully remotely while managing a caseload of virtual clients.
- Demonstrated success in working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
- Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills, capable of multi-tasking, prioritizing duties, and managing time effectively.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in work product is essential.
Educational Background:
The educational background needed for the Virtual Caseworker position includes a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field of study. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of social services and the specific needs of refugee and immigrant populations.
Experience:
The level of experience needed for the Virtual Caseworker position includes a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in the human services field. Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations is strongly preferred, as it provides valuable insights into the challenges faced by these communities and the resources available to support them.
Languages:
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in written and spoken Dari and Pashto is highly desirable, as it enables effective communication with clients from Afghan backgrounds who may require assistance during their resettlement process.
Additional Notes:
The Virtual Caseworker position is fully remote, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements. However, it may require occasional weekend and/or evening work to address client-related emergencies. Compensation for this position is based on various factors, including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. The IRC offers a comprehensive benefits package for US employees, including sick time, a 403b retirement savings plan with matching contributions, paid holidays, paid time off, and medical, dental, and vision insurance. Part-time employees are eligible for a proportionate amount of paid time off, and additional benefits apply to employees who work at least 6 months within a 12-month period.
