The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Community Impact Consultant within our Western States Region. The location is flexible to locations within the Western States region with cost-effective access to travel across the territory served and convenient proximity to a major airport. Under broad supervision, the Community Impact Consultant will drive the execution of health impact goals around policy, systems, and environmental changes by focusing in the areas of hypertension, cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes, nutrition, women's health, tobacco and vaping, mental wellbeing. The Community Impact Consultant will effectively integrate population health strategies focusing on collaboration with Executive Directors, Development, Advocacy, and Communications & Marketing partners. The Community Impact Consultant will also serve as an internal consultant to the region/territory on community and population health strategies and trends with a specialized focus on systematic changes to drive health improvement across under-resourced communities. Due to the current pandemic, daily travel is minimal and voluntary to ensure the health and safety of staff. There is no overnight travel currently. In the future, this position may resume daily and/or overnight travel. All AHA offices are closed and staff are currently working from home. Offices will be reopening on a part-time basis in September 2021 and a full-time basis in January 2022; this position will resume to being based in the local office. Responsibilities Essential Job Duties:
  • Effectively build a network of meaningful volunteer and partner relationships to create a sustainable culture of health within our vulnerable community. Proactively lead and identify, recruit, orient and retains volunteers consisting of senior level executives and community leaders within the market to drive the overall chronic disease management plan. Work with supervisor to support engagement and involvement of the Division's Board of Directors. Accountable for the organization and management of volunteers.
  • Develop an overall community action plan that includes engagement and positioning strategies, driving to organizational goals around healthy behavior, which includes blood pressure management, and other health impact initiatives. Plan should include an engagement plan for key volunteers and strategic alliances. Bring programs to scale leveraging marketing insights and trends for engagement, therefore driving sustainability. Develop written plan to communicate the impact the AHA is having within the market to be shared with internal audiences, volunteers, local board, strategic partners, affiliate leadership and funder (while applicable).
  • Serve as a catalyst and convener with strategic organizations and demonstrate progress through reach of system changes.
  • Drive direct health impact via targeted strategic community alliances (i.e., faith-based institutions, FQHCs, community centers etc.) and corporate relationships (i.e., Top 25 Companies, sponsors, etc.)
  • Collaborate with division EDs to determine sponsorable strategies and issue-based funding to address significant population reach that will drive to the reduction of health disparities in diverse audiences.
  • Successfully build and implement a cross-functional chronic disease management such as hypertension and cholesterol and type 2 diabetes control strategy in the market with strong integration of Health Strategies and Development.
  • Train internal and external teams on improving control rates for chronic disease management. Assists with educating all staff in the market with the ability to talk about what the AHA is doing to address health equity.
  • Work collaboratively with corporate relations and development staff partners and volunteers to identify, cultivate, and secure prospective sponsors for relevant campaigns, driving to specific sponsorship goal with development team. Support the achievement of the unrestricted field campaign through issue-based funding/activations and other means.

  • Minimum of three (3) years:
  • Proven ability to recruit, mobilize and manage volunteers, including C-suite level executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive toward and achieve results.
  • Proven ability to apply marketing insights to develop appropriate strategies.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with the ability to gain trust and demonstrate influence without authority.
  • Progressive experience in public health, health system or equivalent.
  • Background in healthcare, community health, marketing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree may be preferred in supporting the required level of skill, knowledge and experience required.
  • Demonstrated success in developing proposals and securing of sponsorships, major gifts, and foundations funding.
  • Knowledge of corporate and community networks.
  • Knowledge of AHA’s mission and programs.
