Responsibilities The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Data Engineer Fellow in our National Center office located in Dallas, Texas (Remote or Home Based is acceptable). In this role, you will help drive the development of the next generation technology platform for scientific research. The ideal candidate will have an interest in using data science including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to advance the science of precision medicine within the AHA Institute for Precision Cardiovascular Medicine. The Institute is a highly collaborative environment and the candidate will work closely with product experts, software engineers, research grantees, and external scientists and government personnel to creatively solve challenges in medical research using state of the art tools and methodologies. This is a full time, benefits eligible, 2-year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs. Current funding is through 6/30/2023. *Due to the current pandemic, all staff are currently working from home.* Essential Job Duties:
  • Analyze real-world patient registry data to address important research questions using AI, deep learning, and machine learning approaches as well as other statistical models,
  • Management of data,
  • Implement interactive UI/UX for data documentation and guides as well as pipelines for end users,
  • Work with scientists/grantees and AHA scientist and clinical volunteers on data analytics and statistical modeling for publications,
  • Support team in the delivery of external grants by providing data science expertise,
  • Publish journal papers and present work at scientific meetings,
  • Work with team to implement Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) standards across the AHA Precision Medicine Platform in line with National Institutes of Health (NIH) collaboration.

  • PhD or Master’s degree within the last 3 years in data science, computer science, applied math, computational science, or a related technical field,
  • LESS than 3 years paid, postdoctoral experience.
  • Coding in R and Python.
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud-based architecture; AWS background preferred.
  • Excellent listening skills, including verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Highly effective organizational skills, time management, responsibility, and motivation.
