Responsibilities
The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a
Global Director, Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI) in our
Healthcare Business Solutions department! This position can be remote/home office based.
Food is at the center of the world’s most urgent challenges and largest opportunities. The Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI) is a revolutionary enabling platform that aims to catalogue the chemical diversity of food using latest mass spectrometry and omics technologies. It will accelerate the evidence base and revolutionize contributions of food diversity to human health. PTFI takes a global multi-sectoral collaborative approach informed by the scientific, academic, health, agricultural, food, and entrepreneurial sectors. The
Executive Director will oversee the PTFI. The ED will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of a restricted multi-million dollar grant with multiple funders. The responsibilities will include positioning and execution of PTFI’s agenda,
business development, financial stewardship and managing staff. The ED will bring keen intellectual curiosity and a deep interest in making impact in the intersection of food,
agriculture,
nutrition, and health sectors. The American Heart Association and the Alliance for Bioversity International have been selected as the Secretariat of the PTFI. The ED will be employed by the AHA but will represent the Secretariat.
- Lead staff and Alliance team (Alliance for Bioversity-CIAT) in developing an operational plan, annual budget, funding compliance requirements, and technology requirements to create and sustain the Periodic Table of Food Initiative. May oversee Alliance Secretariat staff as part of the overall PTFI team.
- Establish the PTFI global governance structure including facilitating volunteer leadership committees such as the Funders Consortium Board, Science Advisory Committee and Multi-stakeholder Advisory Committee. Build relationships and engage key strategic stakeholders from domestic and international public and private organizations impacting the project such as food, agriculture, nutrition, public health, and health sciences.
- Oversee development and identification of lab technology, database technology and research strategy including system and data requirements for database creation, global data collection, user and research portals and scientific publishing.
- Position and represent the PTFI internationally as a global platform for scientific information and knowledge on biochemical composition and function of food. Coordinate and manage global centers of excellence for the PTFI.
- Collaborate with Funders Consortium to enhance and increase fundraising towards the PTFI operation and sustainability.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree
- Eight (8) to Twelve (12) years of relevant experience
- Experience setting up operations and building business infrastructure in a related industry or health science organization
- Experience with global program management through multi-national and multi-cultural entities across industry, government and non-government organizations
- Experience in application of chemistry or science to agriculture or food development
- Experience in or across a substantial portion of the PTFI agenda in health, nutrition, or food science
- Funder/fundraising and volunteer management experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact and engage across multi-cultural disciplines and multi-national institutions
- Proven expertise in leading collaborative research initiatives or programs
- Ability to build and manage technology vendors and multi-national industry relationships
- Ability to travel up to 25% local and overnight stay
