UN-Habitat's mission is to improve living conditions in urban areas and to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. The organization has a strategic plan for 2026-2029, emphasizing adequate housing, land management, and basic services, and operates in numerous countries worldwide, collaborating with various international organizations and local governments.

Job Overview:
The Project Manager for the Global Housing Hub will oversee the successful operation of the UN-Habitat Global Social Housing Hub located in Paris. This role involves effective coordination of the partnership between Paris and Nairobi, mobilizing resources, and implementing technical assistance and capacity-building activities. The position requires a strategic focus on addressing housing inadequacies affecting over 3 billion people globally, driven by urbanization, climate change, and economic pressures. The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the Hub operates efficiently, delivering a range of support services including capacity-building for public officials, technical assistance, and knowledge development, while fostering collaboration with international organizations and stakeholders.

  • Resource Mobilization and Partnerships: Design and implement a resource mobilization strategy, strengthen partnerships with international organizations, and represent the Hub in relevant forums.
  • Programme and Technical Guidance: Coordinate the design of the Hub's workstreams, provide technical inputs on housing practices, and contribute to the operationalization of recommendations from the OEWG-H.
  • Reporting, Monitoring and Compliance: Prepare annual reports on activities and financials, ensure compliance with UN-Habitat regulations, and support audit processes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in housing, urban development, or human settlements, particularly in social aspects of housing. Experience in institutional set-up, partnership development, and resource mobilization is essential. Familiarity with the New Urban Agenda and SDG 11 is advantageous, as is experience working with UN agencies or multilateral organizations.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in urban development, housing, or a related field is required. A first-level degree with additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience in housing and urban development, with a strong emphasis on social aspects. Experience in an international or multilateral context is crucial, and familiarity with both industrialized and developing countries is preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and French is required, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in both oral and written communication is essential for engaging with French and international institutions.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to last for 12 months. The UN does not charge any fees during the recruitment process, and candidates should be aware that the organization does not request information regarding applicants' bank accounts.
