Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an international organization that seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to inhibit its use for any military purpose, including nuclear weapons. Established in 1957, the IAEA is headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and has a mission to foster the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear technologies. The organization operates in over 170 countries and has a workforce of approximately 2,500 employees. The IAEA plays a crucial role in global nuclear governance and works closely with member states to enhance their capabilities in nuclear science and technology.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience that aligns with their academic studies and interests. Interns will gain exposure to the operations of the IAEA and the broader United Nations system. This specific internship focuses on supporting the Nuclear Systems Support and Development Group (NSSDG) in enhancing the Cyber Learning Platform for Network Education and Training (CLP4NET). Interns will engage in various tasks related to platform administration, user support, and the development of e-learning products, thereby contributing to the IAEA's mission of promoting nuclear knowledge and education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the NSSDG Coordinator, the intern will be responsible for several key tasks:
  • Assist with the daily administration of the CLP4NET platform, including setting up course spaces, uploading and updating learning materials, and maintaining course information and metadata.
  • Support user registration and enrollment processes, respond to routine access queries, and assist with basic troubleshooting, escalating more complex issues to technical colleagues.
  • Participate in testing e-learning courses and platform updates, documenting test results and issues, and following up on necessary corrective actions.
  • Collect, check, and organize course and participation data, preparing and analyzing usage statistics and visual summaries to support monitoring and reporting efforts.
  • Assist in preparing and updating user guidance, operating procedures, and records of platform changes.
  • Liaise with course owners and technical colleagues to clarify requirements, coordinate course updates, and ensure follow-up on agreed actions.
  • Develop e-learning products as needed to support the programmatic activities of the Department of Nuclear Energy.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Communications Engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with digital platforms and user account administration is essential, along with basic IT troubleshooting skills. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required, particularly the ability to organize and analyze data and prepare clear summaries. Familiarity with learning management systems such as Moodle, web content management, or basic scripting is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate good organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory, and knowledge of any additional IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be at least 20 years of age and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree. Applicants may apply up to one year after completing their bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. It is important to note that candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship program.

Experience:
The internship is aimed at individuals who are currently pursuing or have recently completed their university degrees. Therefore, relevant experience in digital platforms, user account administration, and basic IT troubleshooting is beneficial but not strictly required. The focus is on providing practical experience and exposure to the IAEA's operations rather than extensive prior work experience.

Languages:
Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential for this position. Additionally, fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian) is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the international context of the IAEA.

Additional Notes:
The internship is for a duration of 12 months, providing a comprehensive opportunity for interns to immerse themselves in the IAEA's work. This position is designed for full-time engagement, and candidates are encouraged to apply if they meet the eligibility criteria. Interns will receive valuable experience in an international organization, contributing to the IAEA's mission while developing their professional skills. Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application to support their candidacy.
