Job Overview: The Industry Engagement Consultant for the Oil & Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) will play a crucial role in advancing the growth and external positioning of UNEP's industry engagement initiatives. This position focuses on developing and delivering outputs that enhance stakeholder engagement strategies, particularly in recruiting oil and gas companies to join the OGMP 2.0 initiative. The consultant will be responsible for strengthening investor and civil society engagement, promoting measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) work, and producing materials that support these objectives. The role requires a strategic approach to stakeholder engagement, market development, and communications, ensuring that the consultant effectively contributes to the overarching goals of the IMEO and its initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks and responsibilities, including but not limited to: developing and supporting the implementation of IMEO engagement strategies focused on OGMP 2.0; mapping, prioritizing, and maintaining an overview of key stakeholders across various sectors including industry, investors, government, NGOs, and technical experts; conducting outreach to oil and gas companies to build a recruitment pipeline for OGMP 2.0 participation; engaging with investors and financial institutions to promote methane transparency and stewardship; preparing and delivering webinars, briefings, workshops, presentations, and outreach activities; drafting and refining stakeholder-facing materials such as briefing notes, slide inputs, speaking points, FAQs, and external communication inputs; tracking stakeholder feedback, risks, opportunities, and market developments relevant to OGMP 2.0; supporting collaboration with external partners; providing strategic advice to the OGMP 2.0 team; and supporting other IMEO engagement and communications tasks as required. The consultant will report directly to the Head of IMEO.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master's degree or equivalent in energy, environment, climate policy, business, finance, international relations, or a related field. In cases where a candidate possesses a first university degree, a combination of that degree with 10 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Additionally, a minimum of 8 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, market development, partnership building, or industry experience in climate, energy, extractives, heavy industry, finance, or related sectors is essential. Candidates should have a strong understanding of the oil and gas sector, methane, industrial decarbonization, and/or investor sectors, along with a proven track record of engaging with companies, investors, governments, industry associations, NGOs, or international organizations. Strong engagement expertise and an existing network of stakeholders are also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as energy, environment, climate policy, business, finance, or international relations. A first university degree combined with significant experience may be considered in lieu of the advanced degree, demonstrating the importance of both formal education and practical experience in this role.
Experience: The consultant is expected to have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in areas such as stakeholder engagement, market development, partnership building, or industry experience in sectors related to climate, energy, extractives, heavy industry, or finance. This level of experience is crucial for effectively navigating the complexities of the oil and gas sector and engaging with various stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory, as English is the working language of UNEP's IMEO. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders across different regions.
Additional Notes: The expected duration of the consultancy is 6 months, and the position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location. The consultant will be involved in various outputs, including stakeholder mapping, sector-specific engagement materials, investor engagement products, promotional materials for OGMP 2.0, and user needs assessments for digital products.
