Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
ICVA (International Council of Voluntary Agencies) is a global network of non-governmental organizations established to enhance the effectiveness and principled nature of humanitarian action. Founded to promote collaboration among NGOs, ICVA operates in numerous countries and aims to influence humanitarian policy and practice through collective advocacy. The organization is committed to the humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and independence, ensuring that those affected by crises receive equitable access to assistance and protection. ICVA emphasizes innovative approaches to policy development and implementation, advocating for evidence-based solutions and inclusive engagement of diverse stakeholders.

Job Overview:
The position involves supporting a joint review by UNICEF and ICVA focused on the localization of humanitarian efforts amidst decreasing funding. The volunteer will play a crucial role in generating evidence and recommendations that will inform UNICEF's Localisation Strategy. This includes examining various partnership models, financing mechanisms, and the roles of local and national actors in humanitarian responses. The assignment will entail conducting a global survey aimed at local and national NGOs, INGOs, UNICEF staff, and other stakeholders, contributing to both quantitative and qualitative analyses of the data collected. The volunteer will work closely with the project lead and the UNICEF-ICVA project team to ensure that the objectives of the project are met effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The volunteer will be responsible for several key tasks under the supervision of the project lead. These include planning and coordinating approximately 10-20 key informant interviews with humanitarian stakeholders, documenting and synthesizing the findings from these interviews, and supporting the quantitative analysis of survey data. The volunteer will also engage in qualitative analysis of interview notes and open-ended survey responses, which involves thematic coding and identifying significant findings. Additionally, the volunteer will contribute to the preparation of data summaries, charts, tables, and analytical briefs that encapsulate the findings of the project. Expected deliverables include consolidated interview notes, cleaned survey datasets, quantitative and qualitative analysis outputs, and contributions to analytical summaries and presentations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, particularly in data analysis and interpretation. Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods is essential. The ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise formats is also required. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders. Proficiency in data visualization tools and software will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to humanitarian principles and an understanding of the challenges faced in the humanitarian sector.

Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, international relations, humanitarian studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should ideally have completed or be in the process of completing a degree at the undergraduate or graduate level that provides a solid foundation for understanding humanitarian issues and research methodologies.

Experience:
While prior experience in humanitarian work is not mandatory, any relevant experience in research, data analysis, or project support will be beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks effectively. Experience with NGOs or international organizations will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing the ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and while it may not offer financial compensation, it provides an excellent opportunity for professional development and gaining experience in the humanitarian sector. The role is remote, allowing for flexibility in work hours and location. Regular check-in meetings will be scheduled to ensure alignment with project objectives and to provide ongoing feedback and support.
