Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant - Child Protection position at DRC is crucial for delivering child protection services to children in Tripoli, Libya. The role is designed to address the urgent humanitarian needs of children at risk of exploitation, violence, abuse, and harm. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing Child Friendly Spaces and providing case management services tailored to the needs of vulnerable children. Additionally, the Protection Assistant will support educators in implementing learning through play methodologies, ensuring that educational services are engaging and effective. This position requires a commitment to DRC’s Child Protection Policy and adherence to the Child Protection Minimum Standards, ensuring that all activities are conducted in a safe and supportive environment for children.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Protection Assistant - Child Protection include:
  • Implementing learning through play initiatives in selected educational services under the guidance of the Protection Team Leader and Protection Officer.
  • Participating in training sessions and ongoing coaching, incorporating feedback into daily activities.
  • Providing continuous support and coaching to educators involved in learning through play initiatives.
  • Facilitating community-based child protection activities, ensuring they are developmentally appropriate and contextually relevant.
  • Conducting activities that align with the evolution of the Child Protection program as directed by the line manager.
  • Engaging with community members to identify protection concerns and facilitate meaningful dialogues.
  • Ensuring data confidentiality and proper reporting practices, collaborating with MEAL teams for monitoring and evaluation.
  • Representing DRC to various stakeholders, including beneficiaries, community groups, and local authorities, while maintaining professional standards and transparent communication.
  • Supporting logistical, administrative, and financial coordination of program activities as needed. 1
  • Ensuring compliance with internal policies and directives throughout program implementation.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the Protection Assistant - Child Protection position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • At least 1 year of professional experience in humanitarian interventions, particularly in child protection or related fields.
  • Experience in child protection activities within child-friendly spaces or community-based approaches is preferred.
  • Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards, as well as Child Protection Minimum Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively represent a humanitarian organization and build trust within communities.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity, with a willingness to work with diverse populations, including vulnerable migrants and refugees.
  • A field-oriented attitude and a strong humanitarian spirit are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Protection Assistant - Child Protection role should have a University Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Psychology, Community Development, Communication, Humanitarian Affairs, or a related field. An educational background that specifically involves working with children is preferred, as it aligns with the responsibilities of the position and the organization's mission to protect and support vulnerable children.

Experience:
The position requires at least 1 year of relevant professional experience in humanitarian interventions, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked in child protection or similar fields that involve close interaction with children. Experience in related areas such as Mental Health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and General Protection will also be considered valuable.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with beneficiaries and stakeholders. Additionally, a good working knowledge of English is required to facilitate reporting and collaboration with international teams and partners.
