Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position is designed to support UNHCR India in enhancing the collection, management, analysis, and utilization of operational and program data. This role combines data analysis with monitoring and evaluation support, contributing to the production of credible evidence regarding UNHCR's results and the circumstances of the populations it serves. The UN Volunteer will collaborate with colleagues across various functions and, when appropriate, with partners to maintain data sets and information products, support monitoring activities, review data quality, and translate findings into accessible analyses for planning, reporting, and program improvement. This entry-level position is learning-oriented, providing structured guidance, mentoring, and feedback under close supervision, ensuring that tasks align with UNHCR policies and standards, including data protection and confidentiality.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Associate Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, including: supporting the compilation, cleaning, validation, organization, and analysis of operational, program, and monitoring data from relevant UNHCR units and partners; contributing to routine data-quality checks by identifying missing, inconsistent, or duplicate information and documenting issues for review; preparing summary statistics, tables, charts, dashboards, maps, or other information products for internal planning and reporting; analyzing quantitative and qualitative information to identify trends and gaps; assisting in the design and implementation of data-collection and monitoring activities; reviewing data-collection tools for clarity and consistency; consolidating information for periodic reports and management discussions; supporting participatory monitoring approaches; maintaining an organized evidence base for assessments and evaluations; participating in team meetings and preparing concise notes; and preparing guidance and learning materials on data management and analysis. The volunteer will also handle sensitive information in accordance with UNHCR data-protection requirements and raise any concerns with the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this position should possess a strong commitment to the mission of UNHCR and demonstrate accountability, adaptability, and flexibility. They should exhibit a commitment to continuous learning, effective communication skills, and a high level of integrity and professionalism. Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, statistics, data science, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with a background in humanitarian work or experience in data analysis and monitoring will be preferred. Familiarity with data management software and statistical analysis tools is advantageous.
Experience:
This is an entry-level position, and while prior experience in data analysis, monitoring, or evaluation is beneficial, it is not mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Experience in humanitarian settings or with refugee populations is a plus but not a requirement.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken by refugee populations in India, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
This position is based in New Delhi, which is categorized as a family duty station. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The role is part of the national UN Volunteer program, which includes a monthly voluntary living allowance (VLA) of INR 56,126.74, a one-time entry lump sum payment of USD 350, and relocation costs of $175 if applicable. An exit allowance of $120 for each month served will be paid upon successful completion of the assignment. Comprehensive insurance coverage for health, life, and malicious acts is provided, along with 2.5 days of annual leave per month. Volunteers will have access to UNV's learning and career development resources.
