Job Overview:
The Job Counselor position at IRC Hellas is focused on supporting vulnerable youth refugees and host communities in Athens by facilitating access to income generation through employment and self-employment services, as well as skills-building activities. This role is crucial for the implementation of the Youth Empowerment and Self-Reliance project, which aims to promote socio-economic equal access for vulnerable youth in Thessaloniki. The Job Counselor will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of employability activities, which include service mapping, stakeholder engagement, job counseling, and conducting Job Readiness Trainings. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues related to clients’ participation in the program, ensuring that relevant project data is collected and reported accurately.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Job Counselor will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: organizing needs assessments and service mapping activities related to employability and skills development for youth; participating in stakeholder engagement activities; designing, organizing, and leading Job Readiness Trainings and information sessions for youth; providing individual employment support and job counseling; proactively identifying issues related to clients’ participation and reporting them to the Project Manager; ensuring accurate collection and updating of relevant project data on a weekly and monthly basis; coordinating closely with the team to ensure effective implementation of activities; participating in regular team meetings; compiling regular project reports and submitting them to the Senior Livelihoods Manager; and performing any other tasks as designated by the Project Manager.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BA/BS Degree in social sciences, education, project management, or a related certification. A Master’s degree or additional certification in Job Counseling is strongly preferred. Additionally, a minimum of 2 years’ experience in training, employment support, counseling, or project management is required, particularly in relation to refugee protection. Experience in an NGO setting is preferred, along with a strong interest in supporting refugees and vulnerable populations, especially youth. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality and respect for clients and partners, possess good interpersonal and negotiation skills, and have experience in conflict resolution. Excellent verbal communication skills, strong liaison and diplomatic skills, punctuality, attention to detail, and proficiency in computer skills, particularly Excel, are essential.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a BA/BS Degree in social sciences, education, project management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or additional certification in Job Counseling is highly desirable and will enhance a candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in training, employment support, counseling, or project management, particularly in contexts related to refugee protection. Experience working with vulnerable populations, especially youth, is a significant advantage and will be viewed favorably during the selection process.
Languages:
Fluency in both Greek and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but the primary requirement is strong communication skills in these two languages to effectively engage with clients and stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
The working hours for this position are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There may be occasional travel to other areas of IRC programs within Greece. The compensation for this role is €1,631 per month, with variations based on factors such as the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget considerations.
