Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that provides emergency aid to individuals affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion, and natural disasters. Established to deliver assistance based solely on need, MSF operates without regard to race, religion, gender, or political affiliation. MSF International serves as the legal entity uniting MSF's 24 sections, 27 associations, and 18 branch offices, providing coordination, information, and support to the MSF Movement. Registered in Switzerland, MSF International also implements international projects and initiatives as requested, ensuring a cohesive approach to humanitarian aid across various regions.

Job Overview:
The position of Medical Content Editor for HIV Guidelines Consultant is crucial for the development and revision of MSF's medical-operational guidelines, particularly focusing on HIV. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that the guidelines are of high quality, scientifically sound, and tailored to meet the needs of healthcare professionals working in resource-limited settings. This role involves editorial oversight, quality assurance, and collaboration with various stakeholders, including author coordinators and internal experts. The consultant will oversee the entire development process of the revisions, from project planning to content review and final publication, ensuring that the guidelines reflect the latest evidence-based practices and comply with MSF's international standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Preparation and Planning: Participate in selecting author coordinators for new guidelines, outline tasks and responsibilities, contribute to arbitration processes, and support author coordinators on editorial processes. Validate the structure and content of guidelines based on approved concept notes and ensure timely involvement of experts.
  • Medical Content Editing: Review draft chapters for completeness and coherence, ensure evidence-based content with accurate references, and check for clarity and readability. Evaluate the presentation of content and ensure compliance with MSF's guidelines and style. Verify drug dosages and medical terminology for accuracy.
  • Coordination: Confirm contributions from assigned experts, coordinate with translation coordinators, and submit final versions for review. Assist in incorporating feedback from Medical Directors and liaise with translation coordinators to resolve any issues.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates on progress to the IGP manager and actively participate in monthly meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a medical diploma as a doctor, with a background or experience in HIV considered an asset. A minimum of 5 years' proven experience in medical content editing is required, ideally within public health, HIV content, humanitarian, or clinical settings. Familiarity with medical guideline development, systematic reviews, and evidence-based publishing is essential. Proficiency in editing scientific and medical content, with a demonstrated ability to apply consistent referencing and citation formatting, is necessary. Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and coordinating complex editorial processes is also required.

Educational Background:
The position requires a medical diploma, indicating a formal education in medicine. Additional qualifications or certifications related to public health, HIV, or medical writing may enhance a candidate's profile, but the primary requirement is a recognized medical degree.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of field experience with MSF or other international organizations, particularly in contexts related to HIV programs. This experience should include a proven track record in medical content editing and familiarity with the challenges faced in humanitarian settings. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to work effectively in complex environments and contribute to the development of high-quality medical guidelines.

Languages:
A strong command of written English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages such as French, Spanish, or Arabic would be advantageous, particularly given the multilingual nature of MSF's guidelines and the diverse contexts in which they operate.

Additional Notes:
This position is a consultancy contract lasting one year, with a total of 120 days of work and the possibility of extension. The starting date is as soon as possible, and the role allows for remote work within +/-3 hours of Central European Time (CET). MSF is committed to fostering an inclusive culture and encourages applications from diverse backgrounds. All offers of employment will be subject to reference checks and appropriate screening checks.
