The Climate Change Specialist position at the EIB is a pivotal role within the Projects Directorate, specifically in the Sustainability, Advisory and Impact Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading various workstreams related to climate policies, climate transition, and greenhouse gas accounting. This role requires a proactive approach to support coordination and consistency across the EIB Group, contributing to high-level events and representing the EIB in external climate technical groups. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Climate Change Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: implementing the Paris Alignment of Counterparties framework within the Bank’s climate policy context, developing methodologies for assessing corporate and financial intermediary transition plans, and integrating these into the Bank's IT systems. The specialist will lead greenhouse gas accounting and reporting workstreams, contributing to project-level methodologies and emissions modeling. Additionally, the role involves enhancing the Bank's climate-related risk framework, acting as a focal point for technical support on climate risk scoring and screening tools, and monitoring developments in climate policy. The specialist will also be responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships that advance the EIB's climate risk initiatives, ensuring that the Bank remains at the forefront of climate action and policy implementation.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree, equivalent to at least a Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering, economics, or a related field. Additional qualifications in environmental or climate science are advantageous. A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience is required, with at least two years specifically in the field of climate change. Strong analytical skills, particularly in Excel and data management, are essential, along with the ability to code for processing large datasets. Knowledge of international climate policy and greenhouse gas accounting methodologies, such as PCAF and the GHG Protocol, is highly desirable. Experience in managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders is also crucial for this role.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree, ideally in engineering, economics, or a closely related field. Candidates with additional qualifications in environmental science or climate studies will have an advantage. The EIB values candidates who have a strong academic foundation that supports their understanding of climate-related issues and policies.
Experience:
The position requires at least five years of professional experience, with a focus on data analysis, management, or modeling. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience specifically related to climate change, demonstrating a solid understanding of the challenges and methodologies associated with climate risk and greenhouse gas accounting. Experience in project management and collaboration with diverse teams is also essential.
Languages:
