Job Overview:
The position of Sector Manager for Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CSD) is a leadership role within the IDB Group, specifically under the Vice Presidency for Sectors and Knowledge. The CSD Manager will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team that focuses on the conceptualization, preparation, implementation, and supervision of Bank operations related to climate change, biodiversity, disaster risk management, and sustainable urban development. This role requires a strategic thinker who can integrate various technical disciplines and foster collaboration among teams to maximize development impact. The CSD Manager will oversee the development of sector policies, strategies, and operational guidelines, ensuring that the IDB Group's initiatives align with its mission to address climate-related challenges and promote sustainable development across LAC. The position also involves advising senior management on strategic initiatives and representing the Bank at public forums and conferences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Sector Manager include leading and mentoring a diverse team located in Washington, D.C. and across the Bank's Country Offices in LAC. The manager will oversee the preparation and implementation of Bank operations, technical cooperation programs, and knowledge products related to climate change and sustainable development. This includes evaluating the development results of interventions, promoting an integrated systems approach across divisions, and ensuring compliance with the Bank's fiduciary and environmental policies. The manager will also develop and oversee the Sector's research agenda, provide technical guidance to borrowers and implementing agencies, and foster partnerships with various stakeholders. Additionally, the manager will set annual goals for the team, monitor performance, and represent the Bank at public forums.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Sector Manager position must possess a Master's degree or equivalent advanced degree in relevant fields such as Sustainable Development, Environmental Sciences, or Public Policy. A Ph.D. is preferred. Extensive international professional experience is required, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean, along with a proven track record of leadership in complex, multidisciplinary organizations. Candidates should demonstrate a deep understanding of the Multilateral Development Bank environment and possess strong social and communication skills to effectively engage with senior leaders and stakeholders. Proven managerial skills and the ability to build high-performing teams are essential, as is a commitment to integrity and ethical standards.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent advanced degree in fields related to sustainable development, environmental sciences, economics, public policy, or urban development. Candidates with a Ph.D. will be given preference, indicating a higher level of expertise and research capability in relevant areas.

Experience:
The position requires extensive relevant international professional experience, ideally with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. Candidates should have a sustained record of progressively responsible leadership in complex, multidisciplinary, and multicultural organizations. Experience in leading sustainability, climate, biodiversity, and disaster risk management initiatives is crucial, along with the ability to navigate and collaborate across various sectors and institutions.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, while proficiency in Spanish is highly desired. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is considered advantageous, reflecting the diverse linguistic landscape of the regions in which the IDB Group operates.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered as an international staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
