Job Overview: The System Engineer Assistant will be part of the Aviation Transformation Directorate within the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between research and operational activities in air traffic management. The assistant will support the coordination of research projects and simulation platform teams, ensuring that operational requirements are effectively translated into technical solutions. The position involves a blend of technical support, data management, and user training, contributing to the overall enhancement of simulation platforms used in air traffic management. The assistant will also engage in validation exercises, manage technical documentation, and assist in the development of new methodologies to improve testing efficiency and platform quality.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the System Engineer Assistant include:
Supporting the technical interface between research projects and simulation platform development teams.
Identifying and consolidating operational requirements for system evolution.
Assisting in the enhancement of simulation platforms by translating requirements into technical specifications.
Organizing and managing data for testing and analysis to ensure effective evaluations of simulation platforms.
Configuring, testing, and deploying updates to simulation platforms, ensuring readiness for project users.
Participating in validation exercises and managing platform-related issues.
Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including test scenarios and reports.
Providing technical support and training to users of simulation platforms.
Contributing to the development of new tools and workflows to enhance productivity. 1
Carrying out any other tasks aligned with the main purpose of the job.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Computer Science or Aerospace Engineering, meeting the European Qualifications Framework Level 5 or higher. Additionally, a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in engineering activities is required, with at least three years in the Air Traffic Management domain. Experience in identifying user needs and defining technical specifications is essential. Candidates should also have a good understanding of ATM operations, particularly in ATC and Network Management, and experience with ATM simulation platforms. Knowledge of software verification and validation processes is also necessary.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a post-secondary degree in a relevant domain, such as Computer Science or Aerospace Engineering. A Bachelor's degree is preferred, and candidates should meet the European Qualifications Framework Level 5 or higher. Internal candidates may refer to the intranet for equivalency of in-house experience to educational qualifications.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in engineering activities, with at least three years specifically in the Air Traffic Management domain. Candidates should have experience in identifying user needs and defining corresponding technical software specifications, as well as familiarity with ATM simulation platforms and recent SESAR and R&I projects.
Languages: Proficiency in English at level C1 is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the Agency. Candidates are also required to become a basic user of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: The position is a full-time role with a duration of five years, subject to renewal or conversion under certain conditions. The selected candidate will be required to undergo a probationary period of nine months. The appointment may be renewed multiple times, but the total duration, including all renewals, cannot exceed nine years. The role operates under a hybrid working model, allowing for a combination of onsite presence and teleworking, with specific guidelines on teleworking days.
