Job Overview: The Luxembourgish National Graduate Trainee in Business Analytics and Data Science position is designed for recent Master’s graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the space sector. This role is part of the ESA National Graduate Trainee (NGT) Programmes, which provide hands-on experience across various space-related disciplines. The successful candidate will work within the Controlling, Finance and Operational Procurement Directorate, specifically in the Earth Observation Business Unit. The position entails supporting the Directorate in financial and resource planning, business analytics, and data governance. The trainee will be expected to contribute to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of business processes through data science and analytics, while also collaborating with various departments to resolve data inconsistencies and improve operational workflows.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Luxembourgish National Graduate Trainee include:
Providing data science and business analytics support for the Directorate’s controlling and programme controlling.
Supporting financial and resource planning exercises within the Earth Observation Business Unit Controlling Office.
Exploring and prototyping modern methods to enhance business processes and analytics.
Creating, updating, and structuring master data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Developing and enforcing data entry models for standards, policies, and workflows.
Analyzing and improving the link between IT and business departments to resolve data inconsistencies.
Utilizing and implementing digital solutions for master data operations.
Collaborating with project and line managers to monitor and report on the implementation of yearly plans, including corrective measures for deviations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of data science principles. Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerBI or Tableau is essential, along with knowledge of programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL. Experience with Machine Learning or AI is considered a distinct asset. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in international teams is advantageous.
Educational Background: Applicants should have recently completed, or be in the final year of, a master’s degree in fields such as data science, industrial engineering, engineering management, economics, or supply chain management. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical and functional domains relevant to the position.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience gained during internships, project work, or extracurricular activities. This experience should ideally relate to the space sector or similar fields, providing a foundation for the responsibilities associated with the role.
Languages: The working languages of the European Space Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these languages is required for the position. Additionally, knowledge of another Member State language would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the diverse environment of ESA.
Additional Notes: This position is part of the National Graduate Trainee Programme, which is a temporary appointment.
